Prostate cancer is not inherited. But EVERY man would eventually get prostate cancer if they lived long enough.

There is a genetic component and if you have relatives with prostate cancer you should be vigilant about getting yourself checked. My husband had it as did his father, grandfather and a cousin. It doesn't mean that you absolutely will get it if a close relative had it but you should be aware that you may have a higher than normal chance of getting it.

What would be the cause of an "abnomal" prostate test result other than cancer

What would be the cause of an "abnomal" prostate test result other than cancer?
My brother received "abnormal" prostate test results back. He has been referred to a specialist. Other than cancer, can anyone tell me what other causes could create this type of result. Thanks for your help.

Since I had my prostate removed because of cancer, the only test that they perform on the prostate that comes back as abnormal is the PSA test. This test is done to detect cancer and if it is abnormal, the chance of cancer is very very high. If caught early, the survival rate is very high so don't get to upset in the beginning.
