I wanted to express my sympathy. At 57, they caught my prostate cancer early enough and I had it removed ... so I thank my lucky stars that I was watching for it. As you know, Stage 4 means it's everywhere, and thus little hope. It's all up to him and how much he wants to fight, but about 24 months with treatment and 2 months to 12 months seems to be a general rule w/o treatment. Not a doctor but just remembering from the reading I did when I got the news.

I'm so sorry. Whatever time he has is much too short. Even though the cancer has already spread, life expectancy can vary from individual to individual. A third live more than five years. If he goes ahead with treatment the average is 12-18 months during treatment and about two more years after that. I don't know how it is with no treatment. If that's his choice, at least look into a hospice. It's not treatment, but they make what time you have left much more worthwhile.

I hope he has a good life insurance policy for your daughter that will cover some expenses when he dies. I don't know how long he has to live but he is old enough to make his own decisions about his life, and I have talked to wife's whose husbands have died from it and it is tragic. Usually prostate cancer is for older men just like breast cancer is for older women. I don't think they have men checking for that disease until they reach their fifties. It is going to make the next months very difficult for your daughter, I would get a grief psychologist to help her with the coming death.
