PSA every year.
3 :
Yes you are at greater risk just as you were told. It runs in families. Once a year would be fine. The doctor will tell you!

What are treatments for prostate cancer

What are treatments for prostate cancer? ?

1 :
surgery, radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and hormone therapy. Refer http://faq.testcountry.com/WHAT_ARE_THE_DIFFERENT_TREATMENTS_AVAILABLE_FOR_PROSTATE_CANCER_PATIENTS_/679.htm
2 :
There is no "one size fits all" treatment for prostate cancer, so each man must learn as much as he can about various treatment options and, in conjunction with his physicians, make his own decision about what is best for him. For most men, the decision will rest on a combination of clinical and psychological factors. Men diagnosed with localized prostate cancer today will likely live for many years, so any decision that is made now will likely reverberate for a long time. Careful consideration of the different options is an important first step in deciding on the best treatment course. Consultation with all three types of prostate cancer specialists—a urologist, a radiation oncologist and a medical oncologist—will offer the most comprehensive assessment of the available treatments and expected outcomes. The treatments are - 1. Prostatectomy (Surgery) - A surgical approach toward the treatment of prostate cancer can be used to remove all or part of the prostate. Typically, men with early-stage disease or cancer that is confined to the prostate will undergo radical prostatectomy, or surgical removal of the entire prostate gland plus some surrounding tissue. 2. Radiation Therapy - External Beam radiotherapy - Radiation involves the killing of cancer cells and surrounding tissues with directed radioactive exposure. The most common type of radiation therapy is external beam radiotherapy. Brachytherapy - With brachytherapy, tiny little metal pellets containing radioactive iodine or palladium are inserted into the prostate via needles that enter through the skin behind the testicles. As with 3D conformal radiation therapy, careful and precise maps are used to ensure that the seeds are placed in the proper locations. 3. Chemotherapy - The term "chemotherapy" refers to any type of therapy that uses chemicals to kill or halt the growth of cancer cells. The drugs work in a variety of ways, but are all based on the same simple principle: stop the cells from dividing and you stop the growth and spread of the tumor. Additionally the Oncologist may given HORMONE THERAPY.- Prostate cancer cells are just like all other living organisms—they need fuel to grow and survive. Because the hormone testosterone serves as the main fuel for prostate cancer cell growth, it is a common target for therapeutic intervention in men with prostate cancer. Hormone therapy, also known as androgen-deprivation therapy or ADT, is designed to stop testosterone from being released or to prevent the hormone from acting on the prostate cells. -

Chemotherapy followed by surgery if needed.

There is a book just recently out called YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANCER, written by Robert J. Marckini, a prostate cancer survivor. The book is great. It tells all about prostate cancer, then tells about all of the various types of treatments available today plus it outlines all of the pros and cons and side effects of each type treatment... It can be purchased at barnes and noble or most other book stores or it can be purchased on line at a website called Proton Bob. The Proton Bob website tells about prostate cancer and a treatment called Proton Radiation.. I had prostate cancer in 2005 and had Proton Radiation treatments and Im just fine now.. Proton Radiation is the best treatment there is I think.. It has little to no side effects and a 90% cure rate.It is very different from conventional radiation in that 90% of the treatment energy is released at exactly the place of the tumor and no surrounding body tissue or organs are damaged as with conventional radiation... therefore... no side effects.. When I had my treatments I was not sick or even felt bad one single day and now im cured.. Having the treatments was like being on a vacation.. I hope this helps.. Ohh if you go to the Proton Bob website, be sure and read the Patient Testimonial section and you will see how sold other prostate cancer patients are on the treatment.. Its the best!!!!! have a great day..none of the answers above know about proton radiation....so sad... It is bad to see people go through some of the other treatments with all of the side effects when there is such a good and easy cure available.. some doctors are slow to recommend it... they dont know about it, think its still experimental.... or the worst one.. they dont make any money it they dont treat you the way they know how.... when they send you else where...

Who has info about prostate cancer funds or money help

who has info about prostate cancer funds or money help?
insurance doesnt cover my dads surgery for his cancer, does anybody have information on companies that can help us pay??

1 :
have u looked for alternatives besides the surgery? did your dad consider taking out loans from a bank? you can try to get him to a research/ teaching hospital, they're cheaper but it doesn't guarantee a cure. if u want another alternative just email me
2 :
Most hospitals have social workers on-site who are there to help with problems like this. Check with the treatment center your father is going to.
3 :
It is very unusual for an insurance company to not cover surgery for cancer. Your doctor’s office should be appealing this. You can speak to the hospital social worker who can help you arrange something. Teaching hospitals are more expensive than regular hospitals.

Do I have prostate cancer

Do I have prostate cancer?
Well, as a 16 year old boy I am afraid of having prostate cancer. There is especially a symtom in particular concerning my testicles which I am worrying about. One of the testicles is lower then the other. I think it weight more. Could this particular testicle possibly have been affected? Do I have prostate cancer? I seriously don't hope so, because I don't want to visit a doctor.

Protip: Your prostate ain't in your nuts.
2 :
Take some pictures so we can diagnose you better.
3 :
Extremely unlikely. The symptom you describe isn't even a symptom of cancer, and the prostate is not the testicle! The prostate is inside you, it can be felt inside your rectum. The sign of testicular cancer, is a hard lump on your testicle. It's a good idea to feel around your testicles every now and then, and if you feel a hard lump, get to the doctor. It's totally natural for testicles to seem to be different sizes. Sometimes it has to do with how much sperm buildup you have in there, so make sure to empty often, if you get my drift.
4 :
Chessmas- You are okay with absolutely no need to worry. First, prostate cancer is a disease of older men, usually over 50 years of age. The prostate is not located in your ball sac (scrotum); it is inside, around the neck of the bladder where you cannot see it. To even reach the prostate, your doctor would have to put a long finger up your rear end (anus) and palpate (feel) forward. As for the testicles, know that approximately 100% of normal males have the left testis hang a little lower in the scrotum than the right. Every one of your guy friends probably has the same finding. Now stop worrying and enjoy your good health.
5 :
It is very normal for one to be lower than the other, so don't worry. The Prostate is up inside, not in your testicles. Symptoms of difficulty starting the urinary flow, or a very slow stream, or trouble stopping the flow, can mean a prostate problem, but it would be VERY rare for anyone your age to have prostate cancer. Even with symptoms like that, it may only mean BPH, benign hypertrophic prostate, an enlarged prostate, which can be treated with Flomax or similar meds. Unless there is a history of prostate cancer in the family, you needn't worry til you are about 35 years old. By that time you should check yearly with a rectal prostate exam, given by your doctor at a yearly physical. Even with symptoms like decreased flow, it may just be an infection, which can be cleared up with antibiotics, or an inflammation. It COULD be symptomatic of Cancer though. Just keep up with exams, and blood work...a PSA lab...prostate specific antigen, which detects prostate cancer. If he level is more than 4.0, you would be sent to a urologist for further testing. Once again, even that may only be an infection, causing the high reading. Hope this info has helped you. Disregard "smarty pants answers..." The only stupid questions are the ones not asked. Never be afraid to ask questions about anything.

Prostate cancer is cancer of the small walnut-shaped gland in males that produces seminal fluid, the fluid that nourishes and transports sperm. Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men. Prostate cancer usually doesn't produce any noticeable symptoms in its early stages, so many cases of prostate cancer aren't detected until the cancer has spread beyond the prostate. For most men, prostate cancer is first detected during a routine screening such as a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test or a digital rectal exam (DRE). When signs and symptoms do occur, they depend on how advanced the cancer is and how far the cancer has spread. Early signs and symptoms of prostate cancer can include urinary problems, caused when the prostate tumor presses on the bladder or on the tube that carries urine from the bladder (urethra). However, urinary symptoms are much more commonly caused by benign prostate problems, such as an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) or prostate infections. Less than 5 percent of cases of prostate cancer have urinary problems as the initial symptom. When urinary signs and symptoms do occur, they can include: -Trouble urinating -Starting and stopping while urinating -Decreased force in the stream of urine -Cancer in your prostate or the area around the prostate can cause: -Blood in your urine -Blood in your semen -Prostate cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes in your pelvis may cause: -Swelling in your legs -Discomfort in the pelvic area Advanced prostate cancer that has spread to your bones can cause: -Bone pain that doesn't go away -Bone fractures -Compression of the spine -

There will be no any symptoms in the early prostate cancer.and it can be detected only when the cancer bladder neck and posterior urethral obstruction. The clinical symptoms of prostate cancer is related with the clinical staging of prostate cancer and the type of prostate cancer.usually only occuring in the pathological examination. 1.bladder outlet obstruction symptoms It’s almost the same with benign prostatic hyperplasia, with frequent urination, each little urine, urinary frequency increased, in particular, nocturia increased significantly.Resulting in frequent urination during the day.then the urine flow occurs slowly, slow urination urgency, urinary flow interruption, urinating difficulties. There are some difference about the symptoms, the symptoms caused by prostate cancer with continuous development, and benign prostatic hyperplasia is a relatively slow onset of symptoms. 2.Hematuria Hematuria is generally not common. , hematuria occurrence frequency of prostate cancer is less than benign prostatic hyperplasia. because the incidence of prostate cancer is generally located in the prostate peripheral zone. 3.urinary incontinence urinary incontinence ,maybe cauded by prostate cancer filling ,violations of prostate cancer membranous urethra, or urethral sphincter dysfunction etc 4.Urinary tract irritation The common symptoms of prostate cancer patients is urinary frequency, dysuria, and hematuria, which is similar to urinary tract infections and prostatitis ,and needs to identify. 5.Symptoms of distant metastasis The first symptoms for about 1 / 3 of patients is not a urinary tract obstruction, but local proliferation and metastasis.only advanced cancer was in violation of the urethra around the glands, with symptoms of bladder outlet obstruction.Similarly, the forefront of adenocarcinoma to spread outside the prostate capsule is later. When the tumor invade the capsule and the surrounding nerves, peripheral lymphoid, causing local pain, with the further spread of cancer, pain will be radioactive along the sciatic nerve. 6.Symptoms of upper urinary tract obstruction Local spread of prostate cancer and to the abdominal para-aortic lymph node metastasis, respectively causing a lower position outside the bladder and upper ureteral obstruction, kidney water. the cancer violation of bilateral, can lead to bilateral hydronephrosis, even can lead to renal insufficiency. Clinical manifestations is low back pain, oliguria or anuria. 7.Dyschezia Rectal involvement can occur Baedifficulties, colonic obstruction and other symptoms. 8.pain Late peroid, bone pain can occur. A typical part is the Ministry of lumbar and pelvis can be expressed as persistent pain, the pain is more intense when in bed; with the cancer violation of joints, joint pain can occur, after the event increased, joint pain reduce the fixed time. Therefore, patients prefer to maintain a fixed position to reduce the pain caused by the activity. 9.Other symptoms of metastatic disease Common symptoms are under the gum edema, lymphadenopathy, hepatomegaly, subcutaneous metastatic nodules, pathologic fractures, paraplegia, and the emotional brain metastases from neurological dysfunction. source: http://prostatecancercom.com/top-9-prostate-cancer-symptoms

6 :

8 :
Yes, it is possible to happen to males of any age. However, someone your age with prostate cancer would be highly unusual. The average age at diagnosis is 70, so it is largely a disease of older men.
9 :
In a 17 year old CAP would be RARE. The most common type being rhabdomyosarcoma, not the typical CAP you read about. The most common presenting symptom would be inablilty to urinate.
10 :
I'm a nurse. Yes anything is possible. It could also be something else, see a doctor.

You are 17! 17 is the most masturbating year of an adolescent's life. Keep it up and you will have prevented it.

Sure, but why do you ask? Look on a medical info website, and see if you have any symptoms. Quite rare for a guy your age to get prostate cancer, mostly older guys, 50's or more.
