only if the results in 2 weeks shows cancer in the lymph nodes
2 :
Not necessarily but they do have to take precautions. The test result will let you know for sure if it does. until then be hopeful and read up more about the prostate. try this link for good prostate articles. http://healthlime.com/prostate-care
3 :
It does not necessarily mean that the cancer has spread. My understanding is that it is fairly typical to do that type of testing if surgery was opted by the patient. I have prostate cancer and did not opt for surgery, rather, radiation therapy. Did your father undergo prostacint scan?
4 :
I had prostate cancer and had the surgery. My surgeon told me that is is common and almost unavoidable to remove some lumph nodes. Don't read too much into it. Do you know your Dad's Gleason score? That should give you an indication of the size of the tumor. The surgeon should also be able to tell you if the cancer had spread to the surface of the prostate or was still totally enlcosed by the prostate - finding that answer should give you a feeling for what will happen next.

Prostate Cancer Question

Prostate Cancer Question ?
My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is 59. The doctor said his cancer is high risk, but he'll be okay if he gets a shot every month that slows down the cancer. How long could he live or how long do most live with high risk prostate cancer?

The only shot at curing prostate cancer is to have it removed. I don’t know what he means by “high risk. High risk for what? Maybe you mean high grade? Maybe you need to ask the doctor? Most prostate cancers are slow growing, but if it is high grade it probably is not. Men can live with prostate cancer 20 years or more.
2 :
In prostate cancer If possible, Radical prostatectomy is the best option with very good long term survival with good quality of life.Robotic radical prostatectomy has minimal morbidity. Your Dad is not that old where surgery is contraindicated. The stage of the disease seems to be advanced that may be the reason for his Doc to advise chemo. You need to talk to Doc. for this and or you can take second opinion from Uro oncosurgeon.
3 :
By high risk I'm assuming that the Doctor means high Gleason score. The Gleason score indicates how aggressive or fast growing the cancer is. If the cancer is confined to the prostate it is curable. If it has spread beyond the prostate there is no known cure as of yet. It has to be controlled or slowed down. This is usually done by androgen deprivation, such as receiving a monthly shot of Lupron or a similar androgen blocking drug. This normally works wonderfully for a couple of years or longer. Unfortunately the cancer over time will start to grow again. Then chemotherapy is started. Chemo was never thought to be useful against prostate cancer, however it has been found recently that Taxotere and Estramustine can be highly effective. Others are currently being tried also. Provenge is a new vaccine therapy that has just been approved by the FDA but it's extremely expensive and only increases median life expectancy by 2 months. Prostate cancer usually spreads to the bones, especially the spine. In that case radiation can be useful to kill the cancer metastases. It's about at much fun as the Chemo. Sorry for the longwinded answer but I've been researching it for years. My Dad was diagnosed at age 59 also back in 1999 with a Gleason 9 and just past away 2 weeks ago at 70. So even with a high Gleason it is possible to live a long time. And many there are many promising treatments in clinical trials right now so hang in there and good luck to your Dad and you!
4 :
The shot is probably Lupron. I get a shot every three months instead of once a month. He may have to decide what treatment to under go. It may be 8 weeks of radiation or kemo. He will be talking to his Dr. and they will come up with a plan that is best for you father. Every male over 50 should get a digital exam and those with a family history of any male relative, father, brother, uncle should get the exam at age 40. And ask for a blood test caled PSA. Prostate cancer is no fun and I know what I am talking about because I have it. My PSA was 377 when I had the test and after treatment it went down to .4 . Don't give up Dad. Go to a websight at JohnsHopkins.com . You will find a lot of info you may want. Good luck to you.

Scientists have found the same HPV that causes cervical cancers in enlarged prostates which can lead to cancer
does this (prostate cancer) change mens' attitudes towards a disease they thought was just a woman's nightmare? Notice how prevalent prostate cancer is, and notice how prevalent HPV is in men?

Fundraisers for Prostate Cancer

Fundraisers for Prostate Cancer?
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I was wondering if they have any fundraisers or events that help fund research for prostate cancer. I am just asking because you hear a lot about breast cancer and not much on prostrate cancer. I would also like to know where I could possibly donate for it.

A few months ago at Safeway, they asked me to donate a dollar for prostate cancer, so I did. I got a blue bracelet (one of the lance armstrong type ones) I didn't ask whether it was a special month or anything... but I type for urologists, and I might be able to find out, since that is their specialty. how come you are asking? because it seems like it would be the male cancer equivalent to breasts? There is also testicular as well. I wish all cancer could be solved....

I propose a slogan: "Reach in deep until you find a special spot that makes you want to give."

Sam - Welcome to Answers. I'm sorry about your dad's serious condition. His PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) level is very high and indicates his prostate cancer has spread elsewhere in the body. That's his like outlook is terminal. His GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) indicates his kidneys are working pretty well while his BUN (blood or serum urea nitrogen) level is okay. Sadly no physician or anyone else can given you any accurate forecast of how much remaining time he has. At best, it's an educated guess. Spend time with your dad, and let him know you love him, if at all possible. I pray you'll be pleasantly surprised as he continues to be with you.

try the health food store they have Wild Yam Creme that works good
2 :
Your Dr has given you a medicine that changes your hormone function and this hormone change causes symptoms similar to those a woman in menopause might experience. I would not use the wild yams without checking with your oncologist first because this might change your hormone levels and that might be counterproductive to your cancer treatment. My suggestion is that you join the Association of Online Cancer Resources (ACOR) group for prostate cancer patients and caregivers. I'm sure you are not the first to ask this question since your symptoms are quite common in the treatment of prostate cancer. You could read through their Archives or ask your questions directly to others going through the exact same Zoladex treatment. This group currently has 1328 members and may be accessed here. http://listserv.acor.org/archives/prostate.html Here is more info on Zoladex side effects. http://www.zoladex.net/ http://www.prostateinfo.com/ good luck

drink lots of water.... happened to me.. a couple of days back.. refrain from sex for a while (and mast* as well) if anymore questions lemme know!
2 :
Sounds like you have a urinary tract infection. See a Dr, pee in a cup to confirm, and get it treated.
3 :
Dude, sounds more like an STD. You don't have prostate cancer. But you definitely need to go get checked.
4 :
If you know you don’t get prostate cancer at 16 why ask? It sounds like a UTI.
