TNM is a staging system used to codify prostate cancer into grades and stages so accurate decisions can be made in regards to treatments and also prognosis. All types of cancer have similar grading systems with individual tweaks for the particular cancer being staged. http://www.upmccancercenters.com/cancer/prostate/TNMsystem.html Clark's level is another grading system that helps grade the level of tumor invasion into the surrounding tissue. Clark's level is more commonly used with melanoma. With prostate cancer Clark's level could be used to indicate whether the cancer was confined to the prostate gland or had spread. http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=19818

Here is a good place to start: http://www.webmd.com/prostate-cancer/default.htm
2 :
there are many websites that have useful information on prostate cancer. These vary from patient to patient interaction, all the way to clinical publications on various treatments. I would recommend starting at www.prostatecancer.com. this is a site for patients by patients. also here are a few great books: "Prostate Cancer - A Patient's Guide to Treatment" by Drs. Gary Onik and Arthur Centeno "Diagnosing Prostate Cancer" by Dr. David Bostwick best advise... do your homework just because your doctor doesn't offer a particular treatment doesn't mean it's not the best one for you. Good Luck!

even if it is not true dont you think that is a good excuse to do it all the time. i am sure every guy i ask will feel the same.
2 :
Thank you for helping my life. Now there is a medical reason for jerking it five times a week. I am going to start in the morning....heck no....right now....bye ...gotta go.
3 :
Such research findings are difficult to believe. They 'make' one finding and after some time they 'make' another finding. May be its about the sample size they chose. As far as this specific research you are talking about, it is like saying those who had prostate cancer, they never really masturbated. Ridiculous!
4 :
Not yet fully established please.
5 :
HIf Masturbation and having sex end up producing the same result wouldn't it be better to say that Masturbation and Sex do the same thing?
6 :
thats funny! hey if research say its true then it has to be true... now guys have a good excuse to do it! =)

What herbs are the best for prostate cancer

What herbs are the best for prostate cancer???

Try using a natural colon cleanser and blood purifier like Prosit. It is from Africa and has been used by the locals for hundreds of years. It is now available in the US through African Cures USA. http://www.africancures.com/
2 :
Well, that's kind of a tough question because at this point in time, nobody knows what causes cancer, much less what cures it. That being said, there are several things that are very good for general prostate health that many people may take to help combat it (but that's more of hopeful thinking than scientific proof). There's Saw Palmetto, Stinging Nettles (the root, not the leaves), Pygeum, Pumpkin Seed, Glycine, L-Alanine, L-Glutamine (or Glutamic Acid), Beta Sitosterol, Lycopene, Selenium, and Zinc.
3 :
Selenium Saw Palmetto
4 :
Go to an herbalist in your area, even china town can be more helpful to you than any of us here.

A new study shows that limiting dietary fat to 20 percent of calories and eating three heaping tablespoons of whole flaxseed every day can significantly slow down prostate cancer growth. The study was conducted on men who were scheduled to have their prostates removed due to cancer, but this surgery often results in nerve damage and has about a 50 percent chance of permanent impotence. The men who ate the whole flaxseed/low-fat diet retained sexual function as well as their drive. And, the longer the men stayed on the diet, the greater their tumor reduction. Their PSA levels, which are used as markers to indicate if someone has prostate cancer or accelerated tumor growth, didn't go down very much with the diet - but their cancers showed a higher rate of cell death and slower tumor growth when compared to historic tumor measurements of prostate cancer. If you want to increase your prostate health, there are several other things you can do in addition to lowering your fat intake and eating whole flaxseed. Supplements that increase testosterone levels or allow conversion of testosterone to DHT (a hormone that can spur prostate cancer growth) may be harmful, as higher hormone levels have been associated with prostate cancer growth. However, the herb saw palmetto has been shown to benefit prostate health without increasing testosterone levels. In fact, saw palmetto is even touted by the AMA and researchers at Harvard as showing great promise in the fight against prostate cancer, despite their more common stance against natural medicine. Another prostate cancer fighter is milk thistle, which we told you about in our June 1 eAlert. The spice curcumin (known as turmeric) has also been shown to kill prostate cancer cells, according to recent research at Columbia University. Saw palmetto, flaxseed, milk thistle, and curcumin are available at most health-food stores. These are relatively inexpensive supplements that can pack a powerful punch against prostate cancer.

Try a Yahoo search for "prostate cancer" + "natural remedies" (OR "natural treatment").

There is a national study going on right now in several university medical schools around the country regarding pomegranate juice - Typically natural foods are not studied as it costs money and they don't get all the hype that drugs get. HOWEVER, POM, the makers of Pom pomegranate juice paid to have a study done and the results were astounding. 1/2 cup of pomegranate juice every day was found to 'deter the growth of prostate cancer substantially. It made the medical magazines. The study was done on 1/2 cup per day. Once it hits the medical books, the pharmaceutical companies jump on the band wagon. This one study at Berkley, and also University of Wiscosin started many other places doing their own studies. My husband had prostate surgery last year and has since taken 1/2 cup every day (no mixes - has to be PURE pomegrate juice). Too bad we weren't doing this as a habit. It also has many other benefits with cardiovascular system so really good for everyone. I take the pills since the juice is high in carbs and the study was NOT done with pills but only the natural juice. Natural juice is expensive so I just take the capcules every day. So far..... so good...... sure won't hurt anything to drink 1/2 cup a day. Many of my asian friends drink this every day as a matter of culture...... very interesting.......
8 :
Drink ALOT of green tea, it might cure the disease, but it probably won't, it will most likely slow the disease from spreading Asians have the highest percentage of people who smoke, which has been linked to cancer, while they have the lowest percentage of people who have cancer...why? Because of the green tea-that's all they drink, and it's in everything, plus it makes you live longer
9 :
Do a web search on "essiac tea" and "benefits of essiac tea". My girlfiends husband had some trouble with his prostate being enlarged and an alternative doctor prescribed this for him. It got him back to normal and is supposed to be excellent for cancer.
10 :
visit www.cancer411.info you will find good information.
11 :
i do not understand the point here. If herbal formulations were effective we would have used them, and known about them. but at the same time our environment is different now than it was a century ago(more pollutants) so the cancer rates are higher. you need cancer medication, pharmaceutical medication, Period. http://www.Drugstoregenerics.com

Can cancer cells from the prostate transfer to the woman through semen

can cancer cells from the prostate transfer to the woman through semen?
my son asked me and I never thought of this. Is it possible since the semen is developed in the prostate. If it's cancerous is the semen cancerous also?

no ,cancer is not contagious in anyway
2 :
Im a house internal medicine generalist in an academic hospital. If your question is a woman "catch" cancer from having sex with man with prostate cancer...the answer is definitely NO. Even if a metastatic cell were dislodged from the prostate and secreted into semen and ejaculated into your vagina, the cell would have to survive your own immune system to survive and establish its own blood supply both of which are considered largely impossible according to our understanding of oncologic science. there are some viruses that can transferred that cause cancers (like ebv, hiv, karposi sarcoma) but I am aware of no cases where cancerous cells invaded a second host and thrived. And prostate cancer is not caused by a virus.
3 :
No. The tumor cells come from person A (for example) and are highly individualized to that person. If the tumor cells were to make it into another person (via semen, for example), Person B's immune system would see them as foreign and immediately attack and destroy them. It's like a transplant being rejected. That said, I'm not a doctor and not qualified to give medical advice. If you are concerned about this, a quick phone call to your doctor will settle the matter.

What excally is prostate cancer? Cause my brother in laws father has it, and my papaw died from it, cause it?
spread to his bones, and killed him. He had surgery on it, but lived only 2 years afterward. So whats the chances of this man living long?

it's a malignant neoplasm thats an offshoot of the prostate gland (which is in the abdomen, near the groin). quite common in men and like all other types of cancer can kill you. it also spreads relatively easily.
2 :
Go to this site. It has everything about it. This is just an excerpt: http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/ Prostate cancer occurs when the cells of the prostate begin to grow uncontrollably. When caught and treated early, prostate cancer has a cure rate of over 90%. Yet being diagnosed with prostate cancer can be a life-altering experience. It requires making some very difficult decisions about treatments that can affect not only the life of the man diagnosed, but also the lives of his family members in significant ways for many years to come.

Prostate Cancer--What treatment did you do and was it successful

Prostate Cancer--What treatment did you do and was it successful?

surgery and I think so.

I had twenty sessions of EBR (External Beam Radiation) therapy followed by two sessions of Temporary Implant HDR (High Dose Radiation) Brachytherapy (not all hospitals have the necessary specialist equipment to offer this option, though). My treatment also included a three year course of hormone treatment with the testosterone-stopper CASODEX. It is now four years since I was diagnosed and all is well. The brachytherapy was the unpleasant part. 15 catheters were inserted into the affected parts of my prostate gland through the perenium under general anaesthetic and I was peeing, pooing and cumming blood for about a week afterwards! A highly radioactive bead is sent on a wire down each catheter in turn for twenty seconds. The whole thing is repeated 24 hours later when the catheters are first checked to make sure they haven't moved overnight. In my case six had to be repositioned and this was done whilst I was conscious - painful! It wasn't a pleasant experience but it seems to have worked, fingers crossed. The advantage of radiotherapy over having the prostate removed is that I didn't end up having any bowel or urinary problems, which is a high risk with surgery. Also, luckily, now that I am off the Casodex and my testosterone levels have returned to normal, I have resumed sexual activities (without viagra, too!) except my ejaculate volume has decreased to just a few drops, but that doesn't worry me too much. Hope this helps, and good luck.

I had the DaVinci Laproscopic Surgery. In the hospital three days and then home. Some side effects but six months later still cancer free. If it was me, and you are at the younger end of the spectrum (50-60) I would consider it. I have spoken with three others who had the same at different hospitals and they had similar good experiences.
