What can you get from receiving radiation for prostate cancer? Will that kind weaken the immune system

What can you get from receiving radiation for prostate cancer? Will that kind weaken the immune system?

yes. radiation of any type can weaken the immune system.
2 :
My father in law had prostate cancer and what they did floored me because I haven't' heard of it. they put in to sleep in the hospital and inserted these radio active beads right into his tumor. I was fascinated with the procedure. Long story short, his tumor was gone in to time. I'm sure there are Dr's out there that have heard of this. My question is , Why don't they do this to breast cancer tumors that have been caught early. There has to me an answer. What about tumors in the brain that are small? and all tumors small enough to accept this treatment. Maybe Spreedog can help me on this one. I value his opinon more than anyone's because I know, he's honest. and a retired cancer doctor ADD I neglected the answer about weakening the immune system All chemo treatments will weaken the immune system because it's fighting a foregn substance and that's what the immune system is supposed to do. Whenever something is introduced into a person's blood that is not normal or the immune system considers foreign, it will fight like hell to beat it. This is why a person recieving chemo is so weak. The immune system is soley concentrated on ridding the body of what it considers an invader and neglects the lesser problems making a person very weak. I hope this answers your question.
3 :
The immune system is not concentrated in the prostate/pelvis. It is all over your body in the form of blood cells, lymph nodes, and spleen. Given that radiation is a focal treatment (and not one that affects the whole body per se), there is really minimal change to the immune system while undergoing prostate radiation. Having said that, changes that happen in the marrow of the pelvis and around the prostate DO affect the immune system- but would not necessarily have to weaken it; those changes could cause it to react as it normally would. When one gets a virus, it "affects" the immune system, but does not necessarily weaken it. Hope that makes sense. Practically speaking, serious infections are uncommon while undergoing this therapy... Blessings

What U.S. Doctor's have the Highest Success Rate for Remova

What U.S. Doctor's have the Highest Success Rate for Removal of Prostate Cancer?
I'm interested in obtaining information on the best doctor's in America who deal with the surgical removal of prostate cancer. Mainly, who or where to find the top doctor's in the field or which doctors have the highest sucess rate in treating prostate cancer.

Check out John's Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, MD Specifically Dr Ben Carson
2 :
Actually, I would go to the American Cancer Society's webpage and see what info that might have. If they have a support number, you could also try that. Your doctor should be able to refer you to a competant treating physician; however, if you are uncomfortable with their choice, I'd simply Google the term prostate cancer or prostate cancer programs and see what hospitals come up that have specific programs for treating it. I live in AL and I know UAB has a great cancer program, but there isn't neccesarily going to be just one doc that is the best to treat it always. It depends on the cancer.
3 :
You need to research one place to start is Johns Hopkins. There are many other excellent cancer centers such as Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY, MD Andersen Center in TX, Duke University.... Also after the cancer is removed it will need to be treated using either radiation or chemotherapy. If chemo is necesassary a good place to search for clinical trials is oncolink. Do a google on oncolink it is through the Univ. of PA and it is updated with all the latest trials.... Good luck and I hope I have helped you....

Prostate Cancer with Gay Men VS Straight Men

Prostate Cancer with Gay Men VS Straight Men?
I'm trying to do a report of a biology class about prostate cancer. I have been able to find information comparing different races and the stats of prostate cancer among them. I have not been about to find any information about prostate cancer in gays vs straight men. I would think that for gay it is less, because they are stimulating their prostate more, but I'm not really sure. I'm totally in the dark about this one. Question is: do gay men get prostate cancer less than straight men?
Cancer - 5 Answers

1 :
sexuality is not a factor. so no, gay men do not get prostate cancer less than straight men.
2 :
The prostate is stimulated each time you create seamen whether it is by more direct touch or by normal function. Use has no bearing on any other type of cancer. You don't get skin cancer because you touch or use your skin more than someone else.
3 :
No one seems to have a clue. In truth, men of EITHER persuasion who have little or no sex seem to be the ones who are most susceptible to prostate cancer. The prostate is directly involved with the production of testosterone, or male hormone, which not only triggers sexual responses but ALSO is an emotional trigger for ALL men and since the biology is MALE the reactions are usually anger, rage, frustration and the like. Physical activity--working out-- is one way for men to reduce the negative effects of testosterone in the body. Frequent jacking off or person to person sexual activity is not only a stress reducer for men, but it is a NECESSITY in a different way then it is for women. For males the need for sex is much more frequent and the drive is often triggered visually and by scent in a much more aggressive way then it is for women. Without releasing this drive, the sperm in storage becomes susceptible to an aging process which is little un- derstood but which can be most easily identified by TASTE. Try tasting month old sperm. It will make you gag. The factor of not releasing sperm often will someday be identified as producing a carcinogen which has yet to be identified. While some of this information may seem disquieting to you--or even absurd--it is only because you are not advanced enough to grasp it. In a phrase: USE IT OR LOSE IT.
4 :
You should be able to find the information at http://www.oncologyzone.com under the prostate cancer section.

Does masterbation increase the chance of getting prostate cancer

Does masterbation increase the chance of getting prostate cancer?

no ! it decrease it.

no

I have prostate cancer, so I know a little about this subject. Your question has been asked many times here and lots of replies quite erroneously state "No, it has been medically proven that masturbating can reduce your chances of getting prostate cancer." This is just not true and the simple answer is, your masturbation habits have little if any relevance to your chances of contracting, or not contracting, prostate cancer. This misconception arises from the fact that prostate cancer "feeds" on testosterone and some people seem to think that you ejaculate testosterone in your semen, so they figure that the more you masturbate, the less testosterone you are left with in your body. Although it is true that testosterone is manufactured in the testes, it is absorbed directly into the blood stream at source, through a totally separate process to sperm production and the two systems do not mix. I have always been very active sexually, masturbating 3 or 4 times a day throughout my teens and maintaining a level of 1 or 2 ejaculations a day throughout my life. When I asked my oncologist whether I had a high testosterone level which may have been the cause, he said no, just normal or even below normal testosterone levels are still enough to keep the cancer active.
4 :
No because when you ejaculate it takes pressure or something off your genitals and stuff so they are not overloaded and bursting with your juice.
5 :
no its the oppsite actually it decreases
6 :
No, in fact it reduces the chances.
7 :
Here's a link to the original research, which suggests the reverse: http://www.healthnews.com/family-health/mens-health/australian-researchers-link-masturbation-prostate-health-918.htm

Why is prostate cancer, along with other men's health issues, ignored

Why is prostate cancer, along with other men's health issues, ignored?
Okay, I know I sort of asked this question before, but it seems as if prostate cancer awareness flew under the radar last month, as I heard September is prostate cancer awareness month, while breast cancer awareness is getting the full treatment. Nothing against breast cancer awareness, or women's health awareness, but what about men's health getting equal treatment. Do we want men to die?
Men's Health - 2 Answers

1 :
of course not. Just people don't recognise others' suffering until it affects them directly. Guys also don't want to admit to their physical ailments as much as women do... if they did then men would be rallying for support as much as women do. It's a shyness problem, I guess. Men don't like to appear weak or in need of support. Of course that's a generalisation, though. There are indeed male activists looking to improve the awareness of men's diseases.
2 :
That's a very good and surprisingly revelant topic.........true there were years that women were by and large ignored by the medical community, but women also have their OWN doctors, Gynecologists.....men get a general practitioner, not one familiar with men's health issues.........hence the rise in prostate and breast (yes, MEN can get breast cancer) cancer......Plus a lot, I mean a LOT of men brush things off and don't go to a doctor, because of macho -isms that we place on men in our society........and men aren't as open about their health as women are........

Why have they found a potential cure for prostate cancer but not for breast cancer

Why have they found a potential cure for prostate cancer but not for breast cancer?

Cancer - 10 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
have patience=they are discovering more every day breast cancer will have a cure found for it too
2 :
The same way they've found a vaccine for Human Papaloma Virus, but not HIV.
3 :
Prostate is usually slower growing in older men so some less aggressive treatments are available but like you said "potential cure". The "cures" for any cancer are all "potential cures". Plain old faith has worked sometimes. It is all a crap shoot.
4 :
The best I have heard is Provenge to prolong life.
5 :
Every cure is potential in that some people can have the very best treatment and die whether it be breast or prostate.
6 :
Sometimes I just think medical professionals give more weight to men's issues than women's !!! Seriously, I have no idea, but it galls me that even though almost 50% of men will develop prostate cancer if they live long enough, doctors would never suggest they have it removed prophylactically. However, doctors have no problem in suggesting women take out their uterus and ovaries ("so you won't have to worry about cancer") when only a very small percentage of women will actually develop it. Seems they are more concerned about preserving a man's sexual enjoyment than a woman's. Just my ranting opinion.
7 :
Hi, regarding your question, please visit "www.smile.org.au". There is a huge database of cancers including the symptoms of cancers, the cause and effect, prevention of cancers, as well as a wide range of cancer treatments.
8 :
What potential cure are you referring to? I know of no such thing.
9 :
The cure for breast cancer is the same as prostate cancer, early detection and aggressive treatment. I am a 4 year survivor of breast cancer and early detection was the key to survival so be sure to get your annual mammogram.
10 :
It doesn't make sense, does it? You might find this interesting, so I'm sending it along-- Five hundred years ago, people said the world was flat. Today, people say that if the FDA and AMA haven't blessed something, it can't be real good. Well, here's something I know to be real AND good. It's a little different take on cancer treatment-- In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they were limited to surgery, chemo and radiation by profitable AMA treatment policy. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine. I'm a retired engineer, and this is what I've pieced together--our IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means: WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM + STRESSORS = DISEASE (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.) Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body. It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly. THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that are currently being used in Europe and around the world, and there are some great books on the subject. I know because I've read about 50 of them from cover to cover. Here's a list of the best ones. Some are out of print and getting hard to find-- "The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825 "The Cure for All Advanced Cancers", ISBN 1890035165 "A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052 "Oxygen Therapies", ISBN 0962052701 "Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle", ISBN 1885236077 "The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium", ISBN 0533071410 "Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966 "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About", ISBN 0975599518 I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) AFTER they went on programs of herbs and nutrition to restart their immune systems. You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy. This is not a joke, and I'm not selling anything--just trying to help. I am using the things I learned in those books right now to fight off a second infestation of cancer. I've been at it for over a year now, and think I'm going to make it. Use what works for you, and pass on your success. Best of luck. AMA AND FDA-- The American Medical Association (AMA) and the pharmaceutical companies control medical law and the FDA in this country with heavy lobbying and a revolving door policy. WHY would they want to do this? It's about the money. In 2006, medicine (doctors, hospitals, researchers and pharmaceutical firms) received 2.1 TRILLION dollars--15% of the total earnings (GNP 13.7 trillion) in the U.S. This is astounding! It means MILLIONS of people worked the whole year just to pay the nation's medical expenses!! That's totally astounding, and just too big to care about individuals. Watch the film at this website-- http://www.altcancer.com/vidgal.htm#hoxsey

Go to an orthopedic physician and ask him about the shoulder problem and tell him about your cancer concerns also...The only thing shoulder related that I can think of is that if you have abdominal surgery it may be possible to maybe have an air pocket that goes upwards to the shoulder area when you stand up after a surgery? Something like that?
