Rather, is it true that masturbation is one of the causes of prostate cancer? Research that and get back to us.
2 :
"On July 16, 2003, an Australian research team led by Graham Giles of The Cancer Council published a medical study [3] which concluded that frequent masturbation by males may help prevent the development of prostate cancer. The study also indicated that this would be more helpful than ejaculation through sexual intercourse because intercourse can transmit diseases that may increase the risk of cancer instead."
3 :
Masturbating may protect against prostate cancer. It will make you go blind. It will make your palms grow hairy. ... myths about masturbation are largely a thing of ... true, Gen X should never see a case of prostate cancer. Time to go lessen ... may increase the risk of prostate cancer
4 :
YES, it's true.
5 :
you CANNOT get cancer from jacking off...Its healthy, it helps prevent things going wrong with your prostate...
6 :
There are no clear studies that prove that masturbation is healthy and keeps the prostate healthy. For every study that says it is, there is one that says it does not. The prostate is not a muscle but a gland, so it cannot get stronger by using it more. Over-use (3 ejaculations or more a week) would cause abbrasions, which can cause it to become congested and inflamed, which can lead to prostate issues.

Prostate cancer question

Prostate cancer question?
My dad just started chemotherapy for prostate cancer. How long will he live?

Possibly until he is 100! Prostrate cancer is a slow growing, slow spreading cancer. Often if it is diagnosed in the 70's it is left untreated as the patient is likely to die of unrelated age related causes before the prostrate cancer becomes a problem. Lots of love and support needed while he is going through his treatment but he has an excellent prognosis.

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer
Any encouraging stories from any one who knows anyone or had Stage 4 prostate cancer?

My dad had prostate cancer but I don't know which stage. I don't think he has it anymore but now he has skin cancer.
2 :
Yes, a man I know with stage 4 prostate cancer had is prostate removed and underwent chemo therapy. The first year was real rough for him. While he did have some side affects from the chemo, he is still alive and his health is good. He was diagnosed & treated 6 years ago. here are some web sites that have lots of information about the "grading" systems of prostate cancer and what they mean. http://prostatecancer.about.com/od/treatments/a/stage4.htm http://www.urologychannel.com/prostatecancer/stagingsystems.shtml
3 :
Nothing good to say about stage 4 prostate cancer. That means it has probably spread and surgery will only make it worse. Once it spreads the Doctors have no way of knowing where it will go. I'm presently being treated with hormones. Very bad side effects and hormones are temporary as the cancer becomes immune to the treatment. The experience of the Doctor makes a lot of difference. Good luck.

Has anyone had the daVinci Robotic surgery for prostate cancer

Has anyone had the daVinci Robotic surgery for prostate cancer?
What was your result and how do you feel about it after the fact?

Please see Google search for more details and images on da Vinci Robotic surgery.
2 :
I am just diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer and my dr. wants to do the davinci surgery on me. i am also new to this site and can't find the answers to this question. i too would like to hear back from those that have had this surgery.
3 :
64 yrs old and pretty good shape.I had daVinci 3 weeks ago. Walked around an hour after. Home the next day. Catheter was annoying (of course) but other than that napped alot. Walked every day starting with 1/4 mile. Got bored mostly. Catheter out after one week - some dribbling during the day. Lots of kegels. No heavy lifting for another week, yet, but two mile walks are no problem. Look for uro with lots of experience. It seems to me like everyone is jumping on this band wagon; why should they learn on you?
4 :
My husband had a robotic prostatectomy, which unfortunately didn't work. I believe surgery can save lives, but it should never be done casually, the doctor has to be certain that this is the best treatment and that it is absolutely necessary. May needless RPs are performed on men. It's hard to comment without your stats. You can look at U. of Maryland Hospital which has a comparison of outcomes for different types of surgery. Best wishes, Leah prostatecancerblog.net

Prostate cancer questions

prostate cancer questions?
1) does masturbation/ ejaculation really reduce the risk of prostate cancer? 2) what type of food contains omega-3-fatty acid ( reduce many cancer risks)? 3) what are the CAUSES of Prostate Cancer?
Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
masturation ect does not cause or reduce the risk it runs in families if dad, uncle or grandad has it you would be at risk http://www.prostate-cancer.org.uk/ you may find this site helpfull has a good message board too
2 :
There is some evidence that frequent ejaculation gives a level of protection against prostate cancer. http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/site/c.itIWK2OSG/b.70620/k.B40A/NonRisk_Factors.htm (scroll down). Nobody knows the causes of prostate cancer. The biggest risk factor is age. Prostate cancer is extremely rare in men under 50; over 80% of men diagnosed with it are over 65 and half of all cases occur in men over 75.
3 :
Didig 1. Prostate cancer may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, problems during sexual intercourse, or erectile dysfunction. No masturbation/ejaculation has nothing to do with reduction of prostrate cancer. Rather The results contradict those of previous studies, which have suggested that having had many sexual partners, or a high frequency of sexual activity, increases the risk of prostate cancer by up to 40 percent. 2. There are three major types of omega 3 fatty acids that are ingested in foods and used by the body: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut, other marine life such as algae and krill, certain plants (including purslane), and nut oils. Prostate cancer Laboratory and animal studies indicate that omega-3 fatty acids (specifically, DHA and EPA) may inhibit the growth of prostate cancer. Similarly, population based clinical studies of groups of men suggest that a low-fat diet with the addition of omega-3 fatty acids from fish or fish oil help prevent the development of prostate cancer. Like breast cancer, the balance of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids appears to be particularly important for reducing the risk of this condition. ALA, however, may not offer the same benefits as EPA and DHA. In fact, one recent clinical study evaluating 67 men with prostate cancer found that they had higher levels of ALA compared to men without prostate cancer. More research in this area is needed. 3. Causes: a. Genetics A man's genetic background contributes to his risk of developing prostate cancer b. Diet Imbalanced diet can be cause of many types of cancer. Incorrect quanitity of vitamins, mineral selenium. c.According to National Academy of Sciences (2009) Xenotropic MuLV-related virus or XMRV protein was cause of prostate tumors in 23 percent of human . Good day Enjoy http://bisbio.in

Hey Dr.s, Does not having sex very often after a vasectomy, promote prostate problems, like cancer

Hey Dr.s, Does not having sex very often after a vasectomy, promote prostate problems, like cancer?
After having a vasectomy in 2000, I have had times where I have gone weeks or even months without sex. There have been times where I am urinating and have released an almost entire ejaculation's worth of semen. My question is, can this lead to prostate cancer? If so, please supply resources. My wife thinks that I am just trying to have sex more often, but I have shown her more than once that it is a real problem that can be very painful. I don't want any smart allec comments, I need some medical knowledge in this area.

I would suggest you call the surgeon who did your surgery and ask this question. Personally, I can't see a connection between having a vasectomy, sex and prostate issues. Celebate men do not have an increased risk of cancer of the prostate so you shouldn't either. This, however, does concern me... "There have been times where I am urinating and have released an almost entire ejaculation's worth of semen." From my understanding of how this whole thing works, this can't/shouldn't be happening together. How can you be sure it's semen in your urine and not an infection? How are you feeling otherwise? Do you have pain, fatigue? I think you need to see a doctor... really.
2 :
Vasectomy or frequency of sex has absolutely nothing to do with Prostate cancer. You are probably experiencing symptoms of Prostatitis -- a more common condition wherein your prostate gets inflamed. In this case, it is advisable to maintain regular sexual activity (once a day is the norm, depending on your age and overall state of health) inorder to eliminate those prostatic fluids you normally produce. Going back to Prostate cancer, if you are at least 45 y/o, visit a urologist and have a digital rectal exam, and probably PSA testing (a blood test) if your doctor so decides.
