Will Obama Cut Back on Prostate Cancer Research to Support Women's Health Issues

Will Obama Cut Back on Prostate Cancer Research to Support Women's Health Issues?
... as Dems like Pelosi and Hillay want? Do you put your husband's hard earned money towards breast cancer research or prostate cancer research? Do you care about protecting your daughters or your sons?

Who knows what Obama's plan is? At one point it was trim research and at another it was do more research. At one point he said he was going to cut subsidies to insurance companies and then turned around later and said he was going to increase subsidies. I don't even think Obama knows what his actual plan is, other than to say he's going to give, give, give to some after taking, taking, taking from some others. And from one day to the next there's no way to know which end of the stick you're going to get; the sharp end or the really sharp end.

I am NOT a doctor. But, I do know that if they catch it early enough, he will live a long and normal life. It sound like the Doc already did that. He should be just fine.
2 :
don't panic it's a very slow growing cancer treated with hormones or removal. I have given you a link to a good site al nice genuine people http://www.prostate-cancer.org.uk/forums/default.asp and also http://www.cancerbackup.org.uk/Cancertype/Prostate
3 :
Hormones will keep the cancer from growing but is a temporary fix. There's a lot of side effects from the hormones. I had Surgery a year ago and still have cancer. The hormones worked fine for about 9 months and now the cancer is growing again. No one ever knows for sure what the cancer will do or where it will go. Prostate Cancer is not always slow growing. Vietnam Veterans sometimes have a more aggressive cancer. Prostate Cancer is a 100% disability with Social Security. Good luck to you and your Father.

I had prostate cancer in 2005 and had Proton Radiation treatments for it. It is the very best treatment for prostate cancer. It has little to no side effects and a 90% cure rate. There is a website called Proton Bob that tells all about it. If you go there be sure and read the patient testimonials.. Also there is a book recently published called YOU CAN BEAT PROSTATE CANER. It was written by Robert J. Marckini a prostate cancer survivor . It tells all about prostate cancer and all of the various treatments available today and the pros and cons of each treatment as well as the side effects.. You father should go to the website and purchase the book also. It can be purchased at barnes and noble and other book stores or ordered on line at the Proton Bob website.. Just be sure and have your father check out Proton Radiation.. It is the best treatment I believe. I wasn't sick a single day and feel great now and am cancer free.. read the testimonials of other patients at Proton Bob.. Proton Radiation is not like conventional radiation.. It is more confined and therefore doesn't destroy surrounding body tissue or organs.. therefore ... little to no side effects... best of luck ..hope this helps. Also the harmone thereapy does not cure the cancer ... it just puts it on hold for a while.. proton radiation cures it..
5 :
Hormonal treatment is known as adjuvant care. The target is to scale back the chance of the carcinoma coming back. Hormones control the growth and activity of standard cells. To grow, prostate cancer relies on the hormone testosterone produced by the testicles. Hormonal therapies cut back the amount of testosterone in the body. They can be given as injections or tablets. Hope that this helps. Above all good luck with your Dad

The longest possible survival is five years if you are under expert and expensive care.
2 :
I keep saying that it is impossible to guess because my husband has prostate cancer which was estimated 1 year and it has been 6 years. Psa was 145.3 Gleeson score 8. Was in his ribs etc and he now is hormone refractory but when he went on hormone therapy psa went to 0.2 and stayed down for quite awhile. Was in a clincal trial for xinlay has had quadramet 3 times. And we have hopes of some of the newer medicines helping.

My brother has prostate cancer. Anyhone know about seed containing radiation to treat it

My brother has prostate cancer. Anyhone know about seed containing radiation to treat it?
He is in stage 1, 55 years ols, and is considering this instead of an operation to remove it. Anyone know any stats on this procedure?

I have heard it works better than the old treatments of radiation, drugs, etc. I wish this had been around when my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My dad was on Lupron ( a very expensive hormonal drug).
2 :
I assume you're referring to some sort of implant that directs medication right to the tumor rather than treatment being given orally/intravenously? If this is the case, the benefits would be possible reduced side effects since the tumor is being targeted directly - not the entire body. I don't know the stats, but the principle for treatment is a sound one.
3 :
I haven't heard of the treatment you mentioned, but I have heard that progesterone balancing creams can prevent the cancer from metastisizing to other parts of the body. If you do try this, be sure to get a cream that doesn't contain any other ingredients (black cohosh, rose hips, etc) that may affect horomones.
4 :
There is a lot of information out there on the net. . .this is just some things I found - beginning with what the "seed radiation" is: Brachytherapy, also known as prostate seed implantation or radioactive seed implantation involves placing tiny radioactive pellets ("seeds") directly inside the prostate tumor. Low-dose seeds are implanted permanently and give off radiation for several months before losing their radioactivity. High-dose, or high-energy, seeds are implanted for less than a day and deliver a concentrated dose of radiation to the tumor. Men whose cancer is confined to the prostate gland are the candidates for this type of treatment When you do your search - try using the search keywords like: prognosis of brachytherapy. A good website to go to is the National Cancer Institute.

Go to the doctor, its a sign of diabetes
2 :
prostate cancer in someone your age is rare, but it does happen. I would recommend seeing a doctor, frequent urinating can be a symptom of many things. You could have a bladder infection, diabetes, or a number of other things. I would recommend getting a complete physical.
3 :
You should go to the doctor, but don't freak. It could just be an infection.
4 :
You don't have cancer! Forget that. Besides, frequent urination is not a usual symptom of prostate cancer. That happens when you have an enlarged prostate. Diabetes is a possibility, or an infection, so you do need to let a doctor check you out. Or maybe you're just drinking too much water. People get crazy about drinking water these days.
5 :
I am sure you don't have prostate cancer at your age. Being frightened and anxious can make you have to pee more often so try to relax a little. It's possible you have a bladder infection so you do need to go to the doctor. If you find you are more thirsty than usual it could indicate diabetes so, again, your mom does need to take you to the doctor for a check up.
6 :
Try drinking Cranberry Juice it will help clean your system out. I feel you need to see a doctor.

Why are there no blue ribbons for prostate or testicular cancer awareness

Why are there no blue ribbons for prostate or testicular cancer awareness?
Why is it, when men have a chance at getting breast cancer too, that the color of the ribbon is pink (which is a traditional feminine color)? Why not choose a neutral color to represent both men and female breast cancer awareness?
Cancer - 5 Answers

1 :
One in eight women is diagnosed with breast cancer, 100 times more often then in men. It is simple fact that women are more likely to be affected, and millions of women suffer from this disease daily. Only 0.8 percent of men diagnosed die from the condition. Pink is a feminine color for a cancer that over the past few years has destroyed the feminity of women. There is something beautiful about a woman with no hair, no breasts, and a pink ribbon to show their strength. It is silly to fight over a color, I can tell you as the daughter of a recently diagnosed mother that even if the ribbons were made of chocolate covered gold, it would not change anything.
2 :
there are blue ribboms for testicular cancer but finding one is a bit like trying to find rocking horse sh*t. i agree with yor sentiments regarding the pink ribbons because, as you rightly say, men can also get breast cancer. perhaps the answer lies with the fact that the people at the top of the cancer charity concerned are women.
3 :
What is intrinsically female about pink? I believe the pink ribbon is symbolic of breast cancer awareness worldwide; and pink is not identified as a 'feminine' colour in all countries. As it happens, fewer than1% of all those diagnosed with breast cancer are male. But even if it were 50%, I wouldn't see it as an argument to change ribbon colour. All colours are 'neutral'. Now, as a breast cancer survivor (so far) I loathe all the pink fluffiness that surrounds breast cancer, and I know many other breast cancer patients and survivors who feel the same way. But that's a whole other issue. There is a ribbon for prostate cancer awareness, and it's blue. Testicular cancer also has an awareness ribbon; its colour is orchid.
4 :
Well it is breast cancer awareness month... What about gray...for brain cancer?? Breast cancer color is pink, doesn't matter male or female. There are prostate and testicular cancer awareness colors, but I have no need for them for myself... Oh Rough, you read a lot but don't recall all...There was an interview with drs and the statement was similar to this, "If all men lived to (a certain old age), then 100% of them would get prostate cancer...I know many men, and many older, but I only know one that was diagnosed with prostate cancer...
5 :
It is an interesting question. Women tend to support each other more than men. Men (including me) trend to retreat to our caves when things go wrong. Women started the breast cancer campaign, and in this country baby girls are traditionally dressed in pink, boys in blue. The % of men with breast cancer is correct. Here is another one - 100% of men will get prostate cancer. It is not a question of IF- it is WHEN- and it is happening to younger and younger men.. And we men should take a lesson from the ladies, get our act in gear and demand and answer.
