all you can really do for him is pray for him let God to the rest =)
2 :
Be a good listener, let him vent out his deepest & darkest fears. Provide him a lot of emotional support. Assure him that you'll be there for him throughout. Tell him that he can call you if he needs anything. As for meals, he can eat anything he likes (keeping in mind the healthy balanced diet). Cook or buy him his favorite food. Depending on the type & stage of the cancer, the expected survival varies. He most likely have discussed this with his doctor.
3 :
they have had excellent results with the DaVinci method, your brother will likely lead a totally normal life, many men that qualify for this method do so because the cancer is not greatly advanced. this means his has been caught early enough to cure.
4 :
The surgery will either completely cure the cancer or it will demonstrate via a rising psa test after surgery that the cancer had spread beyond the gland, beyond anything removed. As you would expect, if it removes all the cancer, end of discussion. If there is a rising psa after surgery, then a systemic approach will be used. That is, typically the next stage of treatment will be hormonal therapy. but it may be that a ct scan will find a well localized lump that can be removed or irradiated. Even with removal or irradiation of a secondary lump, is it highly likely that hormonal therapy... typically androgen ablatement therapy will be proposed. This can shrink a prostate cancer by removing androgens, particularly testosterone. If he lives long enough, androgen ablatement therapy will fail, and at that point one expects to see fairly rapid progression. Androgen ablatement therapy by removing a major consumer of cholesterol, the testes, from the picture, will typically lead to fairly rapid hardening of the arteries and to weakening of heart muscle, unless the androgen ablatement therapy is used in an on then off cycling. An alternative to androgen ablatement therapy has been observed in 2 ways. If a patient is on lipitor or similar cholesterol reducing drugs, it appears that by reducing cholesterol we deprive the testes of the material they use to produce testosterone. Like androgen ablatement this deprives prostate cancer of testosterone, and slows progression, even changes a high Gleason grade cancer to a lower grade. What this approach does not do, however is promote hardening of the arteries. Another approach is based on the observation that men who have lost a minimum of 1l pounds in a short period rarely present with aggressive forms of prostate cancer, even though they will present with lower Gleason grade cancer. During fairly rapid weight loss, the aggressive cancer can not feed itself, mostly because the body is not producing enough insulin to keep it supplied with glucose. It is supposed that the higher Gleason grade cancer may starve to death or may simply convert to being a low grade cancer. A combination of Lipitor and rapid weight loss would appear to offer a strong chance of lowering the Gleason grade enough to take prostate cancer down from aggressive to non-aggressive. There is a paper on PCRI website archives that tells of a test done that demonstrates that very close control of insulin production can alone drop the Gleason grade from 6 to 3. But as indicated in that paper, there was a need to avoid use of anything that contained peanut oil, anything with omega-6 fatty acid, just to get the last level of control. Back in April 2006 I began to follow his protocol, with lipitor, and symptoms like bone pain present when I began have disappeared. That is just anecdotal evidence, not well documented in my case even though well documented on PCRI archives. We do know from broadly based statistical evidence that the weight loss part of this protocol appears to have strong benefit. and use of statins like Lipitor do have a strong benefit, statistically speaking. I do follow the dietary recommendations on PCRI website. During the 3 months I was using the PCRI documented strategy of insulin control, I changed from being pre-diabetic to normal, took my blood pressure to 110/72, and lost 60 lbs from 300 to 240. Again, this is not an approved method of treatment, it just appears statistically and anecdotal to be effective.

What is the diagnosis of a person who have a prostate cancer

what is the diagnosis of a person who have a prostate cancer?

Heart Diseases - 7 Answers

1 :
Prostate cancer IS the diagnosis. Are you asking about prognosis?
2 :
I think it is prognosis that u r asking becoz prostatic cancer itself is dignosis. Prognosis is that this cancer is usually not very aggressive & if dignosed in earlier stage & proper surgery ( orchiectomy ) & hormone thery & chemotherypy statrd the 5 yr survival rate is quite ggod.
3 :
Do you mean the prognosis? Because the diagnosis is prostate cancer. The prognosis varies by case but is generally pretty good. It is one of the best cancers to have if you're going to get it.
4 :
I think zoya's answer is the best. If you mean the prognosis, then if it has been discovered and treated in time, it's quite good actually. There are two ways that I know of that it is treated, one is through surgery, where the prostate is removed, or a non invasive (relatively speaking) procedure is to insert a tiny radioactive particle into the prostate, which destroys it and the cancer from the inside out. It is a slow moving cancer, and as zoya said, not aggressive, but like all cancers, it must be found and killed in the early stage. I knew a man who waited too long, and it's spread into his kidneys and spinal column. This was over a year ago, and he's likely deceased by now.
5 :
Prostate cancer is usually adenocarcinoma. Symptoms are rare until urethral obstruction occurs. Diagnosis is suggested by digital rectal examination or prostate-specific antigen measurement and confirmed by biopsy. Prognosis for most patients with prostate cancer, especially when it is localized or regional, is very good; more men die with prostate cancer than of it. Treatment is with prostatectomy, radiation therapy, or, for some elderly patients, watchful waiting. Please see the web pages for more details on Prostate cancer.
6 :
Perhaps you mean how is prostate cancer diagnosed? Interestingly there is a very poor link between men who have prostate symptoms and cancer. The majority of patients who present to GPs with the typical symptoms of prostate disease, frequency, urgency, nocturea, hesitancy and dribbling, have BPH, benign prostatic hypertrophy. A few will have prostate cancer, but not many more than a control group of similar age with few prostatic symptoms. A PSA blood test ( Prostatic specific antigen) is checked, in USA it is performed as a screen test from age 45 years, but not in UK. And a rectal examination is performed. If the PSA is elevated and the rectal normal, the PSA blood test is repeated. If the rectal exam is abnormal as well biopsy is performed. 20% of those with a raised PSA have prastatic cancer on biopsy.
7 :
It depends on how advanced the cancer is. Early detection and treatment will increase the survival rate. The diagnosis is Prostate Cancer. The prognosis depends upon what I mentioned above. Prostate cancer is usually a slow process, which is fortunate. As with most cancers, if a person survives 5 years after treatment, they are considered cured. I hope that this helps. Does masturbating help a man's prostate? Does it prevent prostate cancer

Does masturbating help a man's prostate? Does it prevent prostate cancer?

It isnt for sure. but studies have shown it helps some people. "April 6, 2004 -- Frequent ejaculation, whether it happens during sexual intercourse, masturbation, or a dream, isn't likely to increase men's risk of prostate cancer. In fact, new research suggests it may have the opposite effect and help protect the prostate. Researchers say it's too soon to recommend that men change their sexual habits in an attempt to lower their prostate cancer risk. However, the study raises interesting questions about the role of ejaculation and sexual behavior in the development of prostate cancer. Previous studies have linked frequent sexual activity to a higher risk of prostate cancer, but this new, large study found ejaculation frequency was not associated with prostate cancer risk except in the highest category. Men who ejaculated most often actually had a 33% lower lifetime risk of prostate cancer, and this relationship grew stronger as men grew older. For example, men who reported 21 or more ejaculations per month in their 40s had a 32% lower risk of prostate cancer later in life compared with those who reported between four and seven ejaculations per month. Men who reported more than 21 monthly ejaculations in the previous year had a 51% lower risk of prostate cancer. Overall, an average of 21 or more ejaculations a month during a man's lifetime decreased the risk of prostate cancer later in life by 33%. And each increase of three ejaculations per week during a man's lifetime was associated with a 15% reduction in prostate cancer risk."
2 :
it helps all around
3 :
Studies have indeed stated that masturbation helps protect the prostate from cancer, though it does not prevent it.
4 :
There is some research that suggests that it does reduce your risk for prostate cancer. Aside from the possible physical effects, it can certainly provide some psychological benefits as well.
5 :
There is no proof for prostate cancer prevention

How often does prostate cancer spread to the liver

How often does prostate cancer spread to the liver?

Cancer - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
if untreated it will do in almost all cases
2 :
In around 25% of cases with treatment...and in practically 100% in those who do not have treatment
3 :
The other answers are not completely correct. The liver is a relatively unusual place for prostate cancer to spread. Bone and lymph nodes are common sites.

For a man going through radiation, due to prostate cancer, and has uncontrolable bowels

For a man going through radiation, due to prostate cancer, and has uncontrolable bowels?
Is there some form of diet, so that he doesn't get untimely urges to go to the bathroom. Any suggestions at all would be helpful. Thanks

i would talk to the doctor. going through prostate treatment is bad enough, but i'm not sure why that would affect the bowls
2 :
I think there is a kind of mushroom which is good for cancer, and it help him a lot ,if you talk to his doctor he could put him on the list to have his share,
3 :
If the bowel problem is a result of the cancer treatment then they can provide medication to control these unpleasant side effects. Regards Andy
4 :
I'm not sure about diet, but speak to your Dr. Radiation treatments to the prostate can affect the lower bowels because they are in the same area of the body. You may be experiencing not unusual side effects of the therapy. All the best of luck to you!

Why don't people care about prostate cancer

Why don't people care about prostate cancer?
At my school everyone always wears pink and stuff for breast cancer but no one cares about prostate cancer or other cancers. Is it cause men are less important than females.
Cancer - 8 Answers

1 :
I understand your point. It seems like breast cancer gets a lot more attention than anything else. I definitely support prostate cancer awareness. My dad had it and is finally free of it. Maybe you should start supporting a cancer that's important to you and other will catch on.
2 :
Probly because more women are affected by breast canser than men are with prostate cancer. Or cuz you can see a missing boob you cant see a missing ball ? idk
3 :
No they're not less important. There are many forms of cancer. Breast cancer has gotten huge research funding and awareness because it effects so many women and men, yes men. It can be totally curable if detected early. Any kind of cancer awarness is good for all types.
4 :
Yes, there's a definite inclination in our society to view men as "more disposable" than women. As men, we need to devote more of our attention and resources to solving problems like prostate cancer. A fair balance would be nice. However, it's in our nature to give our women all the best things and devote excess resources to them, because it's instinctive to protect them first. At the same time, I'm kinda' tired of the ever increasing trend to view men as somehow unworthy or even inferior. We've been saddled with the blame for all that is evil in the world, unjustly. The women have been there, the whole time. They are our partners in life, on this planet, and need to shoulder their share of the responsibility. That would go a long way towards fixing some of the problems we face. The women of today should remember that we men are composed of 90% ego. A simple kind word from a woman will make us work wonders and/or miracles. Think twice before you puncture our fragile egos with harsh words. The only reason we get out of bed every morning is to impress women. Tell us we're special and that you don't want us to die of prostate cancer and we'll give you the world. But I've gotten off track. Yes, let's pay more attention to prostate cancer. Now, go take your saw palmetto tablets like a good boy. Thanks for the insightful question. EDIT: Hmm. Tisha. Ok, you're not a boy. Ask the important men in your life to take their saw palmetto tablets. Thanks for caring.
5 :
I know! My brother is a childhood cancer survivor and no one gives a **** about the other cancers. NOthing against breast cancer but the awareness needs to be spread equally
6 :
I totally understand what your saying. Its not because men are less important than females. I have ovarian cancer & leukemia that has spread to my brain, lungs, spine and neck. Ovarian cancer is completely overlooked, along with prostate, colon cancer, well most cancers for that matter. The only way to change it is to do something about it. There should be a local American Cancer Society center in your area, they will help you get awareness in your school, etc. I know how you feel. October kind of aggravates me with all the pink everywhere, although its great its not the only cancer, and the only thing to do is try and help get awareness out about the cancer that has affected you.
7 :
Breast cancer has a high priority because of the hard work and determination of a growing group of women to promote awareness. All cancers are impoortant, all cancer patients deserve our support, but if other cancers are to get the same profile, it needs people willing to put in the effort to create the awareness.
8 :
People do care about prostate cancer. It is a lot closer to being cured than breast cancer is. The vaccine for prostate cancer is due on the market in the next 2-4 months.

He should check into getting medicaid coverage. If he has questions about this, he can talk with a medical social worker in a major hospital. Thley will be able to advise him or tell him who to contact.
3 :
I'd contact American Cancer Society.. they helped my aunt and uncle when he was alive.. Good luck..

Dad can get rid of the prostate cancer by himself and no money is required. This is the free alternative to chemotherapy for cancer patients.Do it and you will know from the future test results. You can also do it alongside any medical treatment. Cancer hates oxygen and cannot live in a high-oxygen environment. If you want to supplement the medical treatment you receive(or not receive) with some alternative therapy then this is for you. You need to help your body to build up your immune system. The breathing exercises - pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after four weeks at the suggested maximum duration you will start to notice benefits gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later. What is known: pranayam helps the body heal itself. How it works in the body is not known – but people may build their own theory. You have to do it yourself for your benefit. The small print: Keep doing pranayam after you are better for minimum 30 minutes a day for rest of life to maintain health. People who have been treated successfully, should do pranayam as well, as there is a chance of recurrence. The pranayam techniques: Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 5 minutes. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently. Anulom Vilom - Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril. This is one cycle of anulom vilom. Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day). You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed. Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee. Duration : 5 to 10 times Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to improve your technique and stay focused. This is simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life, unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over.
