Why is SOOO Much More Money Spent on Breast Cancer Rearch than on Prostate Cancer Reserach

Why is SOOO Much More Money Spent on Breast Cancer Rearch than on Prostate Cancer Reserach?
Roughly 27,000 men in the U.S. die from prostate cancer each year. Roughly 40,000 women die from breast cancer each year. Why are women such complete selfish b**tards by complaining that life short-changes them when so much more money is spent to protect our moms and daughters than to help our dads and sons. Women should be ashamed of themselves. About 50 times as much money is spent on breast cancer research than on prostate research. That is SICK!!! I guess women and girls could give a crap about their dads and sons. This issue isn't my #1 priority in life. But, I do believe that people should not be afraid to look in the mirror at themselves and see how they betray other humans.

Here's an idea for you. Bite my fart.
2 :
You sound very bitter about this subject. Is someone near to you going through prostate cancer and having a hard time finding support? There are many successful treatments for prostate cancer. One such method is implanting tiny radioactive 'seeds' into the prostate. They are the size of a grain of rice and they work by bringing radiation right to the prostate. After a certain amount of time they are no longer giving off radiation so they are safe to stay implanted in the prostate. I'm sorry if you are going through a tough time right now. Here are a few links at the bottom. (I agree, and you might see that you're acting rather rude if you 'looked in the mirror'. Blaming all women for this problem? The bulk of breast cancer funding comes for large companies, so I guess you should be cursing CEO, not women. Women had to band together to get attention for breast cancer, and this took some time. So I suppose once all men become as passionate as you about this issue and start taking a stand like women, then maybe they could raise awareness and money. So should I say men are lazy because they haven't taken a stand or raised awareness for prostate cancer? No. Just like you shouldn't blame all women. These two subjects are NOT related. It is not like there is only so much awareness you can have for the 2 types of cancer! This is ridiculous and you know it, you don't need me to point it out to see it! )
3 :
You are correct that it receives less funding, but not 50x more. According to the National Prostate Cancer Coalition, breast cancer research will receive about $870 million this year, as compared to the $485 million for prostate cancer research. The NPCC further notes that the U.S. invests approximately $16,700 to find a cure for each life lost to prostate cancer and more than $21,800 for each life lost to breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, 40,200 people die of breast cancer annually, compared to 28,900 people of prostate cancer. I imagine it must be due in part to the politicizing of both diseases; typically, activism and pressure on Congress for funding is mostly from women's groups and has been for decades. Most men don't get involved in that type of activism on a large scale and aren't as vocal about their illness(es). However, I suspect it may largely also be due to the age factor. For example, in the 39 and under age bracket, 1 in 228 women will develop breast cancer, as compared to 1 in 19,299 of men who will develop prostate cancer in that same bracket. It may be that the sheer mortality rates and the early age at which breast cancer can strike that the purpose of medical research is deemed to about extending life; loosely translated...putting more resources into fighting diseases that strike younger ages to maximize the years of life per dollar spent. However, all this rhetoric notwithstanding, I do understand your frustration. Thanks for posting a thought-provoking post; perhaps it will spur someone out here to become more involved in making funding advances and/or prostate cancer activism.

ONLY for people that have been directly effected by prostate cancer

ONLY for people that have been directly effected by prostate cancer?
My father is 72 and CAN NOT have SURGERY, the dr. said it is not an option. He wants to know about people who have been through radiation treatments, what was their experience like. Of course if you've had family members effected by this that would be helpful as well

My dad has prostate cancer when he was in his Late 50's. He had radiation capsoles injected into his prostate and over time slowly gave out doses of radiation. He only had that done once and it put his cancer into remission. Don't know if the cancer would have come back. My dad passed away 5 years ago from Primary Pulmanary Hypertension. I hope this info helps you. Good Luck.

My husband's papa had prostate cancer...and normally by the time they are diagnosed surgery is not an option. Cancer is a very sad, vicious and painful experience for all involved. Radiation treatments are never a good thing...but they can prolong the loved ones time with us. You will see that the treatments seem to make the loved one get sicker at first...then they will have days when they dont feel so bad...but the thing with cancer is that you never know from day to day. I just want to say that you have to keep your head held high...sometimes it can be a very long and bumpy road...unfortunately in our situation it was not. He was diagnosed and did not live much longer after. Your father has to be a fighter...dont let him give up!!!
3 :
Radiation has a cumulative effect; at first you don't feel anything, then a coupole of weeks into the treatments you start to get diarrhea and you can only eat peanut butter and lots of Imodium until the treatments end and then for a month or tow after that you still have to be careful and avoid fruit, etc. Please get this book for your father, it will help him a great deal and make him much more comfortable: Amazon.com When Michael Milken was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 1993, he wasted no time switching from his daily egg-and-bacon-sandwich breakfasts to a low-fat, vegetarian diet. He also founded CaP CURE, the Association for the Cure of Cancer of the Prostate. Through research supported by CaP CURE, Milken learned that cutting down on fat was not enough--that soy protein could be an important missing ingredient in his diet. He duly incorporated all of the cancer-fighting ingredients into his diet, but he missed the joy of eating. Enter Beth Ginsberg, Culinary Institute of America (CIA) graduate and natural foods chef. When Milken hired her in 1995, she turned his medicinal soy drinks into tasty, healthy fruit smoothies, his tofu-spread sandwiches into Vegetable Reubens--with tempeh bacon! It became clear that a healthy, cancer-fighting diet need not mean an end to culinary pleasure. In the beautifully photographed The Taste for Living Cookbook, Ginsberg collects more than 75 of Milken's favorite dishes, from Tofu Dog Casserole with a Pretzel Crust to Greek Spinach Pie in a Phyllo Nest to Devil's "Fool" Cake with Cocoa Frosting. Colorful icons next to each recipe let you know how long a dish will take to prepare--many are under an hour from kitchen to table. Nutritional details are given at the end of each recipe, and Ginsberg notes when a substitution can be made (say, low-fat turkey in place of tempeh in a sandwich). Proceeds from the sales of The Taste for Living Cookbook will go to further CaP CURE's research--resulting, one hopes, in even more delicious, healthful meals from chef Ginsberg. --Rebecca A. What are the symptoms of prostate cancer

What are the symptoms of prostate cancer?

Cancer - 2 Answers

1 :
First of all, prostate cancer is more common in men over the age of 65. The most common symptoms involve problems with urination. Symptoms: 1. trouble starting your urine stream 2. a weaker-than-normal urine stream. 3. cannot urinate at all (yikes). 4. frequent urination 5. feels like the bladder is not completely emptying while urinating 6. waking up to urinate 7. either pain or burning when you urinate 8. blood in your urine (ooooo) 9. a deep pain in either the lower back, belly, hip, or pelvis
2 :
Most men do not have any physical symptoms with early prostate cancer. As prostate cancer advances, some men may experience the need to urinate more often, or may find their ability to urinate is slowed or weakened. These problems can also be caused by noncancerous conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Painful irritation can also occur, but this is typically due to other causes, such as infection. Blood in the urine or sexual problems (such as difficulty getting an erection) also may occur as prostate cancer advances. Blood in semen is also sometimes associated with prostate cancer, but can be caused by other conditions such as prostatitis, which is an infection or inflammation of the prostate gland. Pain in the back, hips, and ribs may be other signs of advanced cancer.

Why are black men more likely to get prostate cancer

Why are black men more likely to get prostate cancer?
anyone have the scientific reason for this. how does skin colour effect our insides other than vitamin d production. why are we pre disposed to it
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The incidence of prostate cancer is directly related to testosterone levels (this is the primary male sex hormone). Blacks produce the most testosterone, asians produce the least.
2 :
Leading Urologist Patrick Walsh says that black men get more aggressive forms of the disease, are more likely to have it come back after treatment, and are more likely to die from it than white men. He says the reason why is not known for certain, but it may be because of genetic predisposition (just as we know that family history of the disease matters), diet, and as you mention, inadequate vitamin D. There may be socioeconomic factors at play as well--less access to quality health care, not being screened early enough, etc. There are educational campaigns within the African-American community trying to address these issues. What are the symptoms of prostate cancer

What are the symptoms of prostate cancer?

The main symptoms are: difficulty passing urine, inability to urinate, passing urine often (particularly at night), weak or interrupted urine flow, pain when urinating, blood in the urine and pain in the lower back, hips and upper thighs. However, all of these symptoms can also be caused by other conditions such as benign prostate enlargement. Men with any of these symptoms should consult their doctor. Refer http://faq.testcountry.com/WHAT_ARE_THE_GENERAL_SYMPTOMS_OF_PROSTATE_CANCER_/662.htm
2 :
when u cant pee.. :) my uncle had this.
3 :
* A need to urinate frequently, especially at night; * Difficulty starting urination or holding back urine; * Weak or interrupted flow of urine; * Painful or burning urination; * Difficulty in having an erection; * Painful ejaculation; * Blood in urine or semen; or * Frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs. Because these symptoms can also indicate the presence of other diseases or disorders, such as BPH or prostatitis, men who experience any of these symptoms will undergo a thorough work-up to determine the underlying cause of the symptoms.
4 :
Prostate cancer usually doesn't produce any noticeable symptoms in its early stages, so many cases of prostate cancer aren't detected until the cancer has spread beyond the prostate. For most men, prostate cancer is first detected during a routine screening such as a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test or a digital rectal exam (DRE). When signs and symptoms do occur, they depend on how advanced the cancer is and how far the cancer has spread. Early signs and symptoms of prostate cancer can include urinary problems, caused when the prostate tumor presses on the bladder or on the tube that carries urine from the bladder (urethra). However, urinary symptoms are much more commonly caused by benign prostate problems, such as an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia) or prostate infections. Less than 5 percent of cases of prostate cancer have urinary problems as the initial symptom. When urinary signs and symptoms do occur, they can include: - Trouble urinating - Starting and stopping while urinating - Decreased force in the stream of urine Cancer in your prostate or the area around the prostate can cause: - Blood in your urine - Blood in your semen Prostate cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes in your pelvis may cause: - Swelling in your legs - Discomfort in the pelvic area Advanced prostate cancer that has spread to your bones can cause: - Bone pain that doesn't go away - Bone fractures - Compression of the spine -

Anything ------- that you feel that the organ is behaving abnormally.Do not hesitate to consult a doctor as early as possible.

how true ejaculation or making sex is the one to prevent prostate cancer

how true ejaculation or making sex is the one to prevent prostate cancer?

It does not prevent it for every body, but clinical studies have shown, that men who are sexual active reduce the chance of getting prostate cancer by a high percentage. Flash All data can be found at health sites.
2 :
About 80% .. . .. You have to remember that the doctors tell men to start to have their prostate checked out when they get into their 50's .. . .. Why do you think that is the age of fear in men cause they have been knocking it to the woman for the last 35 + years and it has become kind of like that doctor that has looked at the womans body for the last 35 years .. . .. Kind of getting to be the same old thing the thrill is gone and so is the recycling of the prostate fluids they kind of lay there waiting to be shot out to be replace with new fresh stuff .. . .. Get the idea behind it now Old milk in the frig does have an expiration date on it you know before it goes bad .. . ..
3 :
Yes, they say this is true, because, when you have sex and ejaculate, then you are clearing out the stale semen.and making way for new production. Therefore keping your canals clear and clean.
4 :
I can see no truth in it whatsoever - otherwise wouldn't prostrate cancer not exist?
5 :
The one report I saw said that higher rates of ejculation during the 20s and 30s were associated with lower rates of prostate cancer. The evidence was kind of thin, though, and I haven't seen the study replicated. I think most guys would prefer to stay on the safe side, and masturbate or have other kinds of sex very frequently. No sense in taking any unnecessary chances.

My husband heard that sex can prevent prostate cancer is that really true

My husband heard that sex can prevent prostate cancer is that really true?

1 :
yes it can. ejactulation releases testosterone that would only build up in the prostate. too much testosterone in your prostates causes prostate cancer
2 :
Frequent emptying of the prostrate has shown to reduce the chance of prostrate cancer, either by sex, masturbation or prostrate massage (look it up).
3 :
Brandon A is right and wrong. Testosterone does NOT build up in the prostate, but it can promote cancer. However, studies have shown that ejaculations will decrease the risks associated with prostate cancer. The prostate is a gland, and it needs to be kept healthy and ACTIVE. There are also supplements that can be taken such as: saw palmetto, shark cartilage, and others; check with your herbal dealer.
4 :
then i gues u both shud start workin
5 :
it could...but its a good way of getting you to have sex with him more lol
6 :
Frequent sexual intercourse and masturbation protects men against a common form of cancer, suggests the largest study of the issue to date yet. The US study, which followed nearly 30,000 men over eight years, showed that those that ejaculated most frequently were significantly less likely to get prostate cancer
7 :
it is true in some regard. the issue is and completely depends on the condition of the prostate right now. does he currently have prostate cancer, yes or no. if no, it should help. if yes, it may or may not help. once the prostate has cancer, increased testosterone levels will increase the growth of cancer. this is a big debate, if you don't have cancer in your prostate, it may be truye that higher levels of testosterone may prevent prostate cancer. men generally don't get prostate cancer until they are older, when testosterone levels start to naturally drop.

Does prostate cancer have any awareness

Does prostate cancer have any awareness?
Do you ever see prostate cancer commercials or anything?? Do you care about prostate cancer??

1 :
Yes, it's very important for men to have prostate exams when they reach a certain age. I know there are some stores that always request donations for prostate cancer research.
2 :
it should be on commercials . it doesn't have enough awareness .
3 :
You're a guy, it could be in your future, then you'll see how aware you become.
4 :
Well truthfully I knew nothing about it, until my uncle was diagnosed with it... he has overcame it for right now. But... I heard a few different thing that I hope might help. Its not alot... but I heard that if you have an occupation that you tend to sit a lot; ex: truck driving because of you sitting for most of your time it can cause something that years and years down the road you might be diagnosed with it. And on Dr. Oz, I heard becareful with what kind of milk you drink. Sometimes because of what ppl inject into the cows now, studies have recently shown that it causes prostate.. So Im not too sure about facts, but that's a couple of things I heard about that horrible stupid type of cancer. Good luck and God Bless
