he has the choice of radiation &chemo =or getting the prostrate gland removed
2 :
Yes. About 12 months ago, my father underwent a procedure, where radioactive beads were injected into the prostate. He has recovered nicely from the surgery and is cancer free.
3 :
YES IT CAN BUT ITS COSTLY AND RISKY. HERE CHECK OUT THIS SITE THEY GOT PHOTOS AND INFORMATION ABOUT IT AND ITS TREATMENT OPTIONS.
4 :
Don't worry..It can definitely be cured..Just as long as it hasn't spread or is a in a late stage..the prostate can be removed completely or radiation can be done
5 :
YES! Generally speaking, prostate cancer is a disease of older men. The age and underlying health of the man as well as the extent of spread, appearance under the microscope, and response of the cancer to initial treatment are important in determining the outcome of the disease. These makes treatment selection difficult. Detoxification can be of help especially if a patient is older. You can take the following as dietary supplements: 1. Reishi Gano (RG) is a kind of mushroom essence (Ganoderma lucidum) containing polysaccharide, adenosine, triterpenoids, protein and fibre. The Ganoderma lucidum used are harvested from a 90-day old red mushroom. Daily intake of Reishi Gano (RG) assists in the maintenance of general well-being. 2. Ganocelium (GL) contains Ganoderma lucidum. It is different from RG that the Ganoderma lucidum used are harvested from a 18-day old Mycelium of Ganoderma lucidum. The mycelium are rich in polysaccharides, adenosine, organic germanium, triterpenes, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids. It has excellent effect in improving the general well-being. Get well soon! DENS : - )

You need to check out HIFU. Its an alternative treatment in the US under FDA trials, (been used for a long time overseas) and is very effective. HIFU is high intensity focused ultrasound that blast away the cancer without radiation, chemo, etc. Its non invasive. http://www.internationalhifu.com

I wanted to express my sympathy. At 57, they caught my prostate cancer early enough and I had it removed ... so I thank my lucky stars that I was watching for it. As you know, Stage 4 means it's everywhere, and thus little hope. It's all up to him and how much he wants to fight, but about 24 months with treatment and 2 months to 12 months seems to be a general rule w/o treatment. Not a doctor but just remembering from the reading I did when I got the news.
2 :
I'm so sorry. Whatever time he has is much too short. Even though the cancer has already spread, life expectancy can vary from individual to individual. A third live more than five years. If he goes ahead with treatment the average is 12-18 months during treatment and about two more years after that. I don't know how it is with no treatment. If that's his choice, at least look into a hospice. It's not treatment, but they make what time you have left much more worthwhile.
3 :
I hope he has a good life insurance policy for your daughter that will cover some expenses when he dies. I don't know how long he has to live but he is old enough to make his own decisions about his life, and I have talked to wife's whose husbands have died from it and it is tragic. Usually prostate cancer is for older men just like breast cancer is for older women. I don't think they have men checking for that disease until they reach their fifties. It is going to make the next months very difficult for your daughter, I would get a grief psychologist to help her with the coming death.

If someone has prostate cancer, what can he do to slow the cancer

If someone has prostate cancer, what can he do to slow the cancer?

By all means, get to a major hospital that has that speciality, like John's Hopkins in Baltimore, MD or Sloan Kettering in New York. Also, I hear Univ. of Texas is an excellent cancer facility. Do you take Saw Palmetto. It's good for prostate, urinary problems. Cranberry juice is also good for the prostate - if you like the taste. You can also eat the berries of cranberries.
2 :
You can slow it down or cure it by getting treatment
3 :
There is no hospital that specializes in prostate cancer. Pick a urologist you like and understand. They will explain the options to you and their reasons behind their recommendations. There are too many variables with prostate cancer and much depends on the manĂ¢€™s lifestyle, age, the grade of the cancer and the stage.
4 :
Firstly prostate cancer is generally VERY slow growing. BUT that doesn't mean you should leave it alone. Get it checked by a urologist or so like denisedds suggested. Although after researching it myself (going nearly crazy over the summer) I learned that prostate cancer is so slow growing many men die with or without knowing they had prostate cancer, of other causes.

my aunts husband has been cured, I know it can be tough it is even tougher with your own father...but there is hope...i know a woman and she has got cancer almost in her entire body, they even removed her spleen...but now she is feeling better...if god want...
2 :
Yes. See Dr. Dean Ornish's findings in regard to prostate cancer here - http://www.rd.com/content/dr-dean-ornish-column/1/ . Then check out http://www.hacres.com , http://www.cancertutor.com , http://www.pcrm.org and Dr. Lorraine Day's video "Drugs Never Cure Disease." The steps that most of these people recommend are: 1) 75-90% raw diet, fresh juices a large part of that for extra nutrion, needs to be vegetarian to do any good 2) Water (10 glasses a day) 3) Exercise. 4) Sunshine. 5) Eliminating waste (at least 2 BMs a day), organic coffee enemas can help cleanse and remove toxins 6) Fresh air/oxygen 7) Getting rid of toxins (flouride, drugs, caffeine, olestra/oleine, msg, saccharin) in your diet, elimination of smoking, any refined products (sugar and flour are big ones) 8) Sleep. 9) Removing stress. Right, you have to quit your job to properly heal. 10) No traveling. 11) Conviction to stay on the plan. 12) Stay positive. No TV, newspaper - they're negative. No more research on this stressful site. Pick your plan and do it 100%. 13) Admit you caused the disease, now do something about it. 14) Spend time with the Lord. Approach this with a clean heart, you can't have sin in your life and succeed. Your releationship with God will grow as a result of your sickness. An ND or some chiropractors can recommend and sell you supplements (Standard Process are the best I know) that will help as well.

Sorry but prostate cancer with bone metastasis is not curable, however it is treatable. I know a man who had stage four prostate cancer who was able to return to work driving a log truck after treatment with taxol. I've lost track of him so not sure how he is doing now but he had already lived much longer than the Drs had originally thought would be possible. Here are some web pages that may be of some help. Good luck to your father. http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic3197.htm http://www.webmd.com/prostate-cancer/guide/treating-advanced-prostate-cancer Also, no amount of supplements of any brand will cure prostate cancer. Also, the suggestion made in one answer that your father admit he caused his own prostate cancer is plain nuts.

How to reduce prostate cancer chemotherapy side effects

how to reduce prostate cancer chemotherapy side effects?
the more details,the better

1 :
There are lots of ideas on www.after-cancer.com and www.after-cancer.com/prostate Scroll down the categories on right hand column and pick your awful side effect! And don't believe medics when they say they have "never seen this before"! Verite R
2 :
It all depends on the chemotherapy that is being given. I give chemo at work and the resource I used to teach my patients about the chemo they are going to recieve is about 1500 pages. And most of take is about side effects and complications. If you had pacific drugs in mind listing them would be of great help. hope all goes well
3 :
Chinese medicine can reduce the toxic side effects of the digestive system, such as slowing nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or diarrhea and other symptoms. source: http://prostatecancercom.com/how-to-reduce-prostate-cancer-chemotherapy-side-effects

Sure. But men can get breast cancer too. And lots of women watch the game.
2 :
Sure. Why not?
3 :
Are they going to show the checking procedure? We at least get some side boobage on mamogram commercials.
4 :
That is a good idea.
5 :
Brett Favre won't be in the Super Bowl so the Super Bowl is a non-event.
6 :
I see no reason to not allow it.
7 :
If someone decides to pay for one then there will be. But the money is better served for research. I agree Rev Em!!!
8 :
They do show a PSA (under the auspices of the NFL and the American Urological Society), but it is only shown in the stadium and on the NFL channel.
9 :
Not a bad idea, but if I'm not mistaken, plenty of women watch the Super Bowl. The players never see the commercials, do they?

My brother just found out he has stage 3 prostate cancer.Does anyone know anything about this

my brother just found out he has stage 3 prostate cancer.Does anyone know anything about this?
It has spread to his lynoids (spelling?) He goes for a bone scan today. I am so scared..didn't sleep at all..Everything I'm reading is so scary..Thanks for any information you can give me.

My Dad had it and with treatment lived a long time. My brother was diagnosed early and is free and clear now. There are more issues that go with it that would determine how serious this is. It's hard to say without more details. Depending on whether he has cancer cells or tumors he will likely need radiation or chemo. Sounds much scarier than it is. He will in all likelihood be ok but he needs to stay positive and so do you. If he has tumors that can't be removed they will use radiation to shrink them. If he has tumors that can be removed they will use chemo to kill any cancer cells left behind. It's a long illness but it's not as deadly as it once was. He will have physical problems that will make him cranky - not just from the treatment but because of where the prostate is and what it affects. Look up all the gory details for a better idea. Remember that no 2 people suffering from cancer will experience the same things so don't read the horror stories and freak out and don't read the wonderful ones and think everything's fine. Find a middle ground to be realistic. Good luck. It's as hard on the loved ones as it is on the patient.
2 :
go to this website: http://www.urologychannel.com/prostatecancer/prostate_stage3.html
3 :
Stage 3 prostate cancer is very treatable.. If it has spread to bones/liver then the prognosis goes way down.
4 :
Do you mean lymph nodes? If so, it is not a stage 3 it is a stage 4. Depending on the outcome of his bone scan, Gleason score, PSA and his age, it is possible for him to live with this for several years.
5 :
I've got the same problem. Surgery was December 2007. Started Hormone injections in April 2008 and everything is fine. Lots of side effects but I'm alive. Good luck to your Brother.
6 :
your brother will understand these numbers. I had a PSA of 377, my Gleason was 9 and the TNM was at almost 4. After 8 weeks of radiation the PSA is .4 and I have to get shots of Lupron for several years and further treatment when that stops working. He will have to make some life changes in what he eats and drinks. He should begin an exercise program to help keep his body fit. His Dr. may or may not want to remove the prostate. If he does I recomend having it done by a live surgeon rather than a machine. The treatments are not painful but there are sideeffects that are irritating to say the least. Allow me to suggest a web site-- Johns Hopkins.com. I found all the answers to all the questions I had at this site. Tell him not to freak out as that will just add to the irratition of this problem. We who have it know that at some point we realize that we should have got the digital exam sooner except for the problem men have with that. Any man reading this listen up, if there is a history of any male family member having this cancer in your family then get the digital exam at age 40 and every year after that. If there is no history then get the digital exam at age 50 and every other year after that. As we age this cancer is a very real possibility for all men, so get over the stigma of the digital exam and get it because your life is more important than that exam is uncomfortable. I was 63 when I finally got tired of the problems I was having and got the digital exam. The Dr. told me later that had I put it off any longer all he could have done for me was to tell me to get my paperwork in order. Tell your brother to hang in and do not give in to this cancer but to follow the Doctors advice and keep in mind that this is a slow cancer and the sooner the treatments begin the better it will be for him in the long run. I hope I have helped to alleviate the stress of his problem. Good luck to him and one last note, the people in his circle of family and friends will need to give him moral support and help him through these next few months while he begins to understand and accept his situation. Again, good luck to you " brother".
