I have a friend who was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of prostate cancer

I have a friend who was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of prostate cancer.?
It has been determined that it has moved into his lymph nodes. In my understanding this is pretty much a death sentence. Any idea how long he might have?

No,...... that really sad though... :-( I'm sorry
2 :
I don't really believe you can put a Definite date on his death or even an estimate. My g-pa was told after beingg diagnosed with lung cancer he had 2 months. He lived two more y ears before bein told he had 2 more months he died in 2 weeks.
3 :
Only God can answer this. But adenocarcinomas can be fast indeed. The Doctors should remove the Testicles to slow down the monster and give estrogen. Sorry indeed.
4 :
It is hard to say. Sometimes people with prostate cancer live very long if it is not aggressive... If he has less than 6 months prognosis from the doctors, then hospice can be called in to help him out....
5 :
Tell him not to give up. The attitude has very much to do with how long someone lives. Seek nontraditonal therapies and diets also. I will pray for him too -whether you call it prayer, light healing, Reiki, or what -it does work.
6 :
Six months to a year.
7 :
he is going to have long life .If you are serious about this there is answer please visit www.divyayoga.com. yoga master swami ramdevji maharaj is conducting various camps all over india learn where is the next camp attend his camp if possible or email them .or watch the pranayam techniques in the website do it one hour in the morning empty stomach.or watch ASTHA t.v channel at morning 5.30 am or at 8.00 pm (indian std time) or visit any naturpathy centre under go fasting for 20 or 30 days this will definitely solve your problem. if you have any doubts email me manojselvarajan@yahoo.com

No one here knows the answer to this question. His treatment and survival may come as a total shock to you. Aggressive cancers and stage IV are not a death sentence. They are just more difficult to treat. I know this is true because my son was diagnosed two years ago with one of the most aggressive sarcomas known. He had multiple tumors within the abdominal cavity, some the size of volley balls. He also had lympth node involvment, tumors in the lung, liver, chest wall, large and small intestine, and caked onto the diaphragm. He has done remarkably well considering what we originally heard, but not without alot of work. Do not give up. Do not look at statistics as they never apply to an individual. Cancer is a very individual disease and survival will depend upon many, many factors. It will depend on the age of the patient, response to treatment, overall health issues, location of the tumors, and attitude. There is always hope. Be strong. Are you aware that Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with stage IV testicular cancer with mets to the brain? That was 10 years ago, and look at him now. LiveStrong Foundation http://www.livestrong.org/

You may want to try here: http://www.dendreon.com/index They have their new cancer vaccine up before the FDA advisory committee this Thursday. If the panel votes to recommend approval the FDA should give the go ahead for manufacture. It is not a "cure" but it can help extend the lives of prostate cancer patients.

No one knows for sure, it depends upon the person. But you might Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer researcher came out with a paper saying that the best cancer and infection fighter as yet found was Interferon, but, at the time, it cost $15,000 a gram. The good part was that Interferon was a product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your system. Shortly after that paper came out the FDA tried to make Vit C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA says that the RDA for Vit C is 64 mg a day, just enough to prevent scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vit C and a second Nobel Prize for organic chemistry, said 1000 mg a day as a minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick. On a personal note, I was sick twice a year, for 2 weeks at a time, for 20 years, and was flat on my back for at least a week each time. To this day the doctors have no idea what the problem was. After I gave up on the doctors I tried Vit C. I took enough to keep from being sick and just below too much to get diarrhea. It followed a bell curve over 2 weeks with a peak at 40,000 mg a day – about 300,000 over the 2 weeks. I was not sick for those 2 weeks and after a couple of years of that I have not been sick since. I did not dissolve my kidneys, as some doctors said would happen. I did not get any calcium build up or stones and did not dissolve my cones or solidify my joints. Try it, but drink a lot of water – Vit C is a natural diuretic.

No one can ever predict how long.

FIrst of all, there is very little good informationt to be found at Yahoo answers, so don't take anything you read here to heart. You would do better to join a prostate cancer support group, such as http://www.yananow.net , or doing your research through the prostate cancer research institute http://www.prostate-cancer.org/ Prostate cancer is treatable, even if it's become systemic. The key is that until the very final stages, prostate cancer requires testosterone to grow. For someone in your friend's position, the next step is usually androgen deprivation therapy, which reduces the amount of available testoterone. As long as he responds to this treatment, he can still have a good chance of five year survival.

...Does WHAT work for people? Are you referring to herbs for Prostate health or some drug on the market or something else? Typically, if you don't have a Prostate, taking something to nourish the Prostate will be pointless. If that's not what you're referring to, please feel free to E-mail me more information about your question and I'd be glad to answer as best I can. I hope I helped!

Our family dog just died of prostate cancer. He was taking longer and longer to urinate. He started to drip a little bit after he was done, so we fashioned a sort of diaper for him using a piece of material and elastic, attaching the elastic with velcro (one piece of elastic at the front of the "diaper" and one at the back), then we put a maxipad on the material and changed that every so often. The doctor also prescribed him some painkillers which we put in a treat to feed him once or twice a day. I was away at school when he finally reached the end, but my mom said he started retaining water, and that's when they put him down. I'm so sorry your dog is ill :( I know how sad it can be. Just try to keep him as comfortable as possible. Give him lots of love and treats.
2 :
wow never knew they could get that......so sorry to hear that your dog has it...........take care and I hope you can let him go before he suffers too much. Regards

My dog was just recently diagnosed with a prostate tumor. A biopsy revealed it is cancer. I've been to three vets, but unfortunately, none have given me a very good prognosis. We are starting radiation therapy on Tuesday. We are not giving up hope just yet, and I suggest you don't either. There is a great book to read " The Nature of Animal Healing" by a vet Martin Goldstien. I bought it online for 10.88. He has a practice in South Salem NY. We are in Philly. Its a long drive to his office, but we are taking our dogboy there next Friday. I believe if we can build our dog's immune system, perhaps we can at least stem or slow the growth of the tumor. I suggest you keep a positive outlook. Do lots of research and don't give up without a fight. Keep a strong faith and love your pet as long as you can. Be strong for him or her. They sense our fear. Another site that may give you some comfort is www.prayersforpets.org Another website I have found useful is: http://www.helpyourdogfightcancer.com/index.html I wish you all the best with your battle. If you wish to correspond, you may reach me at kc1970@gmail.com God bless!

What is the VA payment amount for Agent Orange- Prostate Cancer

What is the VA payment amount for Agent Orange- Prostate Cancer?

Cancer - 2 Answers

1 :
You would have to ask the VA, who will (apparently) pay you something...even though there is no evident link between exposure to Agent Orange and developing the cancer...if you or someone you love has it, it's because they are an older man, not because of any kind of exposure. One in four of ALL people get cancer of one form or another during their lifetime. We would all be better off if we focused more on research and less on blame. Please pass along a "Thank you for your Service" to whoever you were asking for... "Prostate cancer is considered by the Institute of Medicine to have suggestive but not conclusive evidence of an association with Agent Orange exposure. In response to the Institute of Medicine conclusions, the Department of Veterans Affairs currently offers compensation for these ailments. Prostate cancer is, by far, the most common of these illnesses, yet has the least scientific support for Agent Orange as a causative factor"
2 :
Prostate cancer is a gland - the loss of a gland due to exposure to Agent Orange is considered 100% disability. I had prostate cancer - as it runs in families, my brother was tested and found to have the cancer also. My brother is a Nam Vet and found out after the fact the info I placed up above. Any Nam Vet who develops prostate cancer is assumed to have contracted the cancer through exposure to Agent Orange

Prostate cancer, what percent die within two years of it

Prostate cancer, what percent die within two years of it?
and 4 years please. No i don't have it, a friend does.
Cancer - 5 Answers

1 :
According to the National Cancer Institute, the 5 year survival rate for prostate cancer patients whose condition has not metastasized is 100%. In other words: it is very treatable. However, for patients with metastatic prostate cancer the survival rate drops considerably.
2 :
Most men have likely had prostate cancer 2-4 years before they are even diagnosed. The 5-year survival rate refers to what percentage of patients are alive 5 years from diagnosis, for localized disease it is 100%, but this rate decreases over time. It is also misleading, as the survival rate is 79% for unstaged disease and most other cancers do not have an unstaged category. At stage 4 the rate drops to 31%. .
3 :
Statistically, the answer to you question is zero percent (see data at link below)... Prostate cancer (assuming it has not spread outside the prostate) is mostly a disease of men who are old enough they will die from something else before the cancer kills them.
4 :
If caught early enough, prostate cancer is very curable. Unfortunately, my father's prostate cancer had already metastasized by the time his was diagnosed. Even so, he survived seven and a half years after being diagnosed.
5 :
They usually get percentages after 5 years. People with prostate cancer at any stage is 80 % & with localized cancer is 94 %. People with regional metastasis is 85 % and distant metastasis is 29 %. If caught early & treated with surgery & radiation, prostate cancer has a good prognosis compared to other cancers. Often these patients die from something else, not the prostate cancer. There are new chemos every day so the percentages can even be higher now. Good luck to your friend.

Prostate cancer? Has anyone ever taken Trelstar LA

Prostate cancer? Has anyone ever taken Trelstar LA?
I have been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and this is my hormone therapy drug. What were your side effects? How long did you take this drug? What other treatment did you have? How long ago were you diagnosed? This is a once every three months shot, to be taken no more than three times. Along with this shot, I must take 500mg calcium and 1000mg of vitiman D. It seems that with more than three shots, brittle bones occur.

"The untoward effects are highly variable from man to man. Some men have no significant clinical symptomatology, while others state they cannot function with a reasonable quality of life. The supportive care of the patient is vital to the acceptability of this very important modality used in the treatment of prostate cancer. " (source: http://www.smile.org.au/cancers/prostate%20cancer.htm) You may visit "www.smile.org.au" to learn more knowledge about "Prostate cancer", there are lots of valuable information for you there.

Trelstar LA is similar to lupron which I took for three years. It is designed to restrict the production of testosterone and has the intended effect of slowing or even( hopefully )stopping the growth of the cancer.Side effects will include hot flashes, enlargement of the breasts, fatigue, muscle soreness, and other side effects commonly associated with hormonal therapies.I also had a "radical"and 44 radiation treatments. My cancer had entered my seminal vesicles. The side effects for me were mild and only occasionally problematic.I would expect the goal of your therapy is somewhat different than mine, given your prognosis, but would also delay considerably the end result.Years, not months or days.I was originally diagnosed in January of 2003.

Hi! I do not have specific answers to your questions but this will help. There are no known cures for cancer. I do have a friend, Herb that is 77 years old that was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. His PSA was 3,360. Yes this is the highest I have ever heard of. The cancer had metastasized and was in his lungs, bones, spine and lymph nodes. Needless to say the doc said there was nothing to be done, the cancer was everywhere. 1 ½ years later, no treatment other than hormone shots and a product called Immunocal and the cancer is not to be found. The Product Immunocal will help. Immunocal is not a cure. It is clinically proven to raise Glutathione in the body and the body does what it was designed to do - fight off pathogens and diseases. In a nutshell, Glutathione is a molecule found and produced in every cell of the body. It is responsible for the proper functioning of the immune system, detoxification, recycling of antioxidants and several other things. Glutathione is the first line defense against diseases. And along with liver, lungs are the largest user of Glutathione in the body. Best resource of information is in the book "Glutathione (GSH). Your body's most powerful protector" by Jimmy Gutman, MD, researcher and emergency physician. Chapter 5 of this book addresses Cancer and the role of Glutathione in cancer prevention, treatment and recovery. It also explains how to raise Glutathione safely and effectively (there are different ways including taking Immunocal) since you can't get Glutathione in your system by eating Glutathione. Or email me from my profile page if you want more information. I lost my mom to breast cancer in 2000. I didn't know all this back then. I am trying to educate people. Olga
4 :
I am not familiar with that drug however I am currently on Androgen Deprivation therapy for PCa. A better place to ask that question is at the Prostate Problems Mailing List: PROSTATE@LISTSERV.ACOR.ORG or go to http://advancedprostatecancer.net/

ask a doctor.
2 :
Testicular cancer, YES. Prostate cancer, HIGHLY unlikely.
3 :
yeah but its really unlikely
4 :
dunno...i think though
5 :
Yes. Talk to your doctor if you think that you're at risk.
6 :
Rare but quite possible. Males only, of course !
7 :
ANYONE CAN GET ANYTHING
8 :
yes absolutely. you should exam the area once a month for lumps if you suspect you have felt something do not hesitate go to the doctor nothing to be embarassed over. better to be safe than sorry
9 :
I'd imagine. I've heard of kids getting breast cancer and ovarian cancer, though it's rare. I suppose is you have a prostate, you can get prostate cancer.
10 :
i suppose it is possible. if your worried see a doctor or you can go to those 'anonymous' drop in centres.
11 :
While I suppose you can never say never, it is beyond unlikely. Prostate cancer is so rare in young men that there are no statistics available for the disease incidence in men under 35. It's extremely rare in men under 50; over 80% of men diagnosed with it are over 65 and half of all cases occur in men over 75.
