Check with Social Services at your local hospital, speak with his MD, or contact the American Cancer Society in your area. Log on to LiveStrong.org.
2 :
Usually the cancer center will have family support. Go to where ever your husband receives his treatment and discuss this with them and ask about family support services. I hope all works out for you and your family!
3 :
Earlier today I saw a prostate group in the yahoo groups, look there. There might be a group for wives there. If not think about starting a group for you an others.
4 :
I am so sorry you are having a hard time since your hubby had surgery. My hubby also has prostate cancer but he still has his prostate and is receiving injections for the problem. I know it is something that can bother a man since his sex urge changes. I wish for you much luck for your married life but having sex is not everything . I find having each other is more important .
5 :
You are in difficult times. I have been there twice so I know how you are feeling - I found this a time of growing together spiritually and it was really great. The cancer society in your area is your best place to seek help. Good luck to you and yours..

Suggestions of a great gift basket? its for my y grandpa who is on kemo for prostate cancer...

Suggestions of a great gift basket? its for my y grandpa who is on kemo for prostate cancer...?
My grandpa is on kemo for prostate cancer. He's not nauseous and still has his appetite, but is diabetic- so sending sweets is out. He is so weak and tired- I live in NY and he's in Idaho- I can't be there to care for him but want to show him I still care so much- Do you have any thoughtful practical gift ideas? I call weekly to talk and tell him I love him- I just want to give something tangible that can help him feel better... i think i should give my grandma something too- she's going through soo much right now with him being sick... (they just had their 60th aniversary!)

1 :
mixed fruits with cheese and crackers and diet pop
2 :
a wig
3 :
so very very sorry to hear about your grandpa. Maybe a couple of good books, pictures of the family, put together some old and recent pic's of the family including animals...that might help. Also, why don't you write him something special like how much he means to you and maybe bring up all the good times you guys had together. If he likes to draw, place paper,pens,markers,etc.....he might like that. If he can have fruit....a nice little basket would be nice.If I think of anything else i will write back. Good luck to you and your grandpa........everything will turn out ok....have faith sweetie...........
4 :
a fun idea would be to buy some old magazines (like a LIFE mag with his favorite old movie star on the cover or an important event to him) from when he was a young scrapper off of ebay that he can read and laugh and have memories about...or get some old movies that he can watch to take his mind off things.
5 :
Be sure to know if he is on any special diet before you send food. For example, some chemo patients become neutropenic during treatment. This means the the white blood cell count is low, making it hard to fight infections. This happens because chemo can't tell the difference in bad cells and good, and sometimes kill the good as well. During the time when the white blood count is low, most patients are forbidden to eat most fresh fruits and veggies. This is because the immune system can't fight the bacteria and pesticides as a person with normal blood counts can. Washing them does not help because the skin of most fruits and veggies is pourous, allowing bacteria and pesticides to seep through the skin into the fruit it self. IF this is the case with your grandpa, your docs would have went over this extremly well and your he would definatly know about. So, if you ask, he will be able to tell you. Also, sometimes foods that you love can make you sick while you are on chemo. The treatment can change your taste bud making things not taste right, or make you very sensitive to smells. This smell sensitivity can make things smell horrible and make you nausuas. So, just ask him if there are any foods he cant have or would rather not have. Other things that would be good to give would be crossword puzzles or word searches if they are into that. Good way of making the time pass.
6 :
flowers, fruits, maybe chocolate candy
7 :
I am sorry. You are already doing the most important thing which is talking with him. His diet is limited so gift baskets which usually have food in them would be very difficult. How about a balloon bouquet? It is cheerful. Or send the gift basket with your grandmother in mind so she can snack. Most good florists have fruit baskets. But a wonderful feel better card with a nice letter in it containing memories and why you love him, etc would be super too. It is a difficult time and they are lucky to have such a considerate granddaughter since most young people avoid this time and feel scared of it. But we will be there where they are someday because it ( old age) happens to everyone usually. That is wonderful they had a 60th anniversary
8 :
have you sent a resent picture of you? If not have a nice 8x10 taken and send it, they will both love it I'm sure. When you ask how Grandpa is doing be sure to ask Grandma too, sometimes we forget the care givers, and they are going through a lot too. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
9 :
How about some movies (VHS, DVD) and some microwave popcorn.

Prostate cancer numbers

Prostate cancer numbers?
My dad has prostate cancer and his number is 6.something. He started out at 4. He's doing the natural route and says the doctor says that anything above 10 is a problem. Is this true? Is there a chart somewhere saying 6 is ok, 8 is bad, 10 really bad...ect? Also is this a type of cancer that runs in the family? Like all my uncles should be checked? I just found out one of my husbands uncle has it, so my husband dad should be checked out too?
Cancer - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
My doctor suggested a biopsy at 8. Sure enough, there it was. I had surgery, weird chemicals, radiation and later an implant so everything would 'work'. That was twelve years ago and so far so good. If you catch this thing in time, then time is on your side. Currently my PSA is .01<. I have every reason to believe that it will stay there. As far as 'getting checked' is concerned, EVERY MAN should have this test every year. While cancer is a killer, this simple test is a life saver. I recommend it!
2 :
The PSA test numbers can be all over the map, and they are only useful for screening or monitoring. A value of 4.0 is used as a threshold to continue monitoring and to help with decisions about getting a biopsy, but in your dad's case, it provides a baseline to compare later measurements. There isn't a chart that explains what the values mean because there is way too much variance in the levels of this antigen. A person could have prostate cancer with a PSA as low as 4, and a person can be cancer free with numbers that are nearly ten times this amount. Prostate cancer grows very slowly. It usually takes decades to become advanced. In your dad's situation, it makes sense to watch this for a while to see what happens. I would expect that he is getting tested several times per year. If the number keeps advancing then its time to intervene. There is no magic number, but if there is a steady advance at each test date for 3-4 consecutive tests, or the absolute count suddenly doubles, then these types of circumstances would suggest that its time to initiate treatment.
3 :
I am sorry to hear that your dad's PSA level is increasing. I have attached some web sites that will provide you some of the information you requested. What you will need to do is start charting the increase, when it occurred, etc. this will provide you an idea as to how fast it is growing. Why I said that is because I am a 59 year old prostate cancer survivor, I went from virtually nothing to over 9 and the high end of a medium Gleason score. Since the doctor couldn't get my PSA level down with medication or treatments, I elected to have a biopsy which provided me a better understanding of just how bad my prostate was. I have spoken to many different people (one 28 one 38 and others over 50) with high PSA levels and based on age, health, life style I advise them to address it appropriately. Getting the biopsy will tell if there are cancer cells and to what stage they are. Once you have all this you can make better decisions and know what to do in the future. Regarding family etc. Prostate Cancer strikes one in every six men. I spoke to my brother who was decided to have a check up after my issue and he has high PSA levels and will be addressing the biopsy at soon I hope. Here is what I preach to everyone now that I have gone through it and survived. Get a PSA blood test now and make sure you keep it in your medical records and keep it in your own records. Based on that initial score it will tell you how often you should have it checked. Having that information will allow you to know how fast it might be growing and spreading should it increase later. I hope this helps and wish you, your dad and all your family all the best. Good luck
4 :
What “number” are you referring to? The number that matters is his Gleason score. If you are referring to his PSA it is helpful to know his age. Charts do not matter that is what urologists are for. There is no “natural route” to treat cancer. Prostate cancer can run in families, but every man you have a baseline PDA and prostate exam at 45.

Prostate Cancer Treatment

Prostate Cancer Treatment?
My friend is diagnosed with prostate cancer. I kinda realized how serious this disorder is...and how common now days it is. So, anyone has any good source on this?

NaturalProstateTreatmens website really helped me a lot.
2 :
It isn’t a disorder it is a disease. There is a 1 in 6 lifetime risk of getting prostate cancer.
3 :
Well, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men over 50. Since Chemotherapy doesn't affect prostate malignancies, Radiotherapy and Estrogen are used in conjunction with each other. The Estrogen is used to cut off the testosterone supply so that the tumor cannot thrive on it.
4 :
Your friend should get a second opinion if he is relying on the PSA test for a diagnosis. It is suspect.

And they say we have the worse health care system! I had cancer too and survived. Makes you wonder but not the other dummies!
2 :
Because the US pharmaceutical and health-care industries can't gain more profits from dead people.
3 :
I think a better question is... why does the US have higher Breast and Prostate cancer survival rates, but not higher Colon and Rectal survival rates than Europe or Japan ? I understand your motives for asking the question the way you did,,...but if you read your own article...we are better at some things and worse in others... also it varies by gender. So you can't cherrypick the good and forget about the bad. Also, you forgot to mention that the racial desparity for survival of various cancers is wider in the US than all of the countries mentioned.
4 :
Cattle in the U.S of A. have 30 days to load up on liquid bulking supplements. Manure becomes a problem even. Some of that supplement that does not meta-size into diarrhea is pooh-poohed by beef advocacy professionals as a link to tumor growth in humans.

Prostate cancer 65 year old dad, im scared... help

prostate cancer 65 year old dad, im scared... help?
my dad might have prostate cancer, hes 65. im scared. whats chances that hes gonna be fine? help? im a little scared...

At least wait for an actual diagnosis before getting alarmed. You say that he "might" have cancer, so that means he may not have cancer. Best wishes for a good outcome.
2 :
Hopefully he does not. However if he does it is often a highly treatable cancer and he can be just fine. Some doctors will even take a "wait and see " approach because some prostate cancers are so slow growing that a man will pass from other causes before he does from prostate cancer. Your dad needs to have his biopsy to find out what level and stage of cancer he might have and then be treated accordingly. It may be that he just has a benign enlargement that comes to men as they age. Keep a good face for your dad and let him know that you love him. That will be the biggest help until he knows what he is dealing with.
3 :
There are various forms of prostate cancer, some are more "aggressive" than others. The GOOD NEWS is that MOST men with prostate cancer live long enough to die of another disease than the prostate cancer. Best wishes and good luck.
4 :
It usually depends on what stage his cancer is in: Stage A - early stage of cancer. Tumor is very small that it can only be detected thru microscopic viewing. Stage B - larger cancer but still confined in the localized area Stage C - spread of cancer in nearby areas of the prostate Stage D1 - spread to the nearby (pelvic) lymph nodes Stage D2 - distant spread (metastasis), for example, to the bones, liver, or lungs. You better check what stage he is in to know his chances of survival.
5 :
Hi. Prostate cancer is very common in men his age, but few die of it. IF he is diagnosed with it, read on: When caught early, as it usually is these days, it is highly curable. It is a challenge to be taken seriously, but no reason to panic. To quote leading urologist Patrick Walsh, for most men prostate cancer is just a bump in the road. To get the basics, check out: http://www.ehow.com/how_5308649_prostate-cancer-treatment.html and to see what chances are, you will need some information from his file: Gleason score, PSA history, and stage. Anybody had prostate cancer treated with radiation after years had recurrence of bladder cancer

anybody had prostate cancer treated with radiation after years had recurrence of bladder cancer?
both cancers have been only localized, doctors at first didnt know if it was a recurrence of prostate or bladder cancer, they say sometimes radiation causes it thx

Hi Sorry for your recurrence.I got surgery for bladder cancer three years ago. No recurrence. Originally treated injecting bacteria in the bladder for six weeks to target the immune system intensive work the bladder. Three of my sisters lost their fight with cancer. They went all the way with doctors recommendations (including prohibition use of natural treatments) and nothing. On my personal case, I will use a combination. Do your own search. Is YOUR life, and YOUR body... and you are not a Ginnie pig. Boost your immune system naturally with (Noni, echinacia, cholostrum, etc) or whatever you prefer. I use 4life Transfer factors (the best of the best in my opinion-boost 427% with only two caps and in just two days). Search and try GRAVIOLA. Hope this help.
2 :
My dad had one of the first 100% protate removal surgery's that was performed back in 1985. They did not know enough about it back then so they did not do radiation. He lived for 8 more years and then it was throughout his body and turned into bone cancer. They learned alot with my dad and his surgery was put into the American Medical Journal. Radiation is very important to have. I am very proud of my dad, he went through alot, and he is so very missed. They said if he had radiation treatments he would probably still be alive. God Bless....

Like all living things the cancer cell is in out genetic genome. Were born with it. Allthough it stays dormant. Depending on the actions we take in life depict if the cancer flares up. Alot of instances though cancer randomly acts up. I highly doubt it will higher your chances. Take porn stars for example. Sex all day long and most of them dont suffer from cancer

For goodness sakes there is no reason to ask this question repeatedly and changing names fools no one.
3 :
The statistical evidence suggests it actually REDUCES the chances of developing prostate cancer, which makes sense if you understand what the prostate actually does; not using any "piece of equipment" on a regular basis is generally not the way to keep it "healthy"....if you bought a brand new lawn mower and did not use it for three years, you wouldn't really expect it to start on first try, would you? Silly goose!

Quite the opposite. According to a team of doctors led by Dr. Graham Giles, males who masturbated most often when they were young had the least incidence of prostate cancer later. Dr. Giles recommends that younger males masturbate at least six times a week.

Can a teenager get prostate cancer

Can a teenager get prostate cancer?
Is this even possible???? I'm only 15 and I'm worried about it It hasn't ran in my family on either side.
Men's Health - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Anyone can be subject to getting cancer. I would not worry about it or let the though of it ruin your life. Has your father or grandfathers ever had prostrate cancer? If non of the men in your family has not had any prostrate cancer then you have a less likely chance, than those who have men in their family that do. Believe it or not a report came out several years ago that said frequent ejaculations lessen your chances of prostrate cancer. So if you can't have sex with a female, then masturbate away.
2 :
look at your family history ask your dad uncles any men in the family
3 :
It's possible, but highly unlikely. Why would you be worried about it? If you have pain in your groin area, that could be a sign of a bladder infection, but probably not cancer.
4 :
Anyone can get cancer. You are more prone to it if it runs in your family. Maintain a healthy lifestyle and you should be fine. Believe it or not, regular masturbation can help reduce risk of prostate cancer, so don't be silly, whack your willy.

I'm sorry to hear this .. I hope he'll be OK, and at least it's been found and can be treated (by the sound of it). Women know the risks of breast cancer, and more men should be aware of the risk of prostate cancer. If there seems to be a problem, they should see their doctor and have tests .. plenty of good medical treatment around now. Good luck to Brohman, and to anyone else who is going through the same thing.

depends if you are talking about a guy or a girl. then it doesn't matter if you are a guy or a girl for different reasons: It doesn't hurt and may even help a guy's cancer odds while girls don't have prostrates. In utero, the area that becomes the prostrate in men is the G spot in women. This is why they have G spot vibrators for women and prostrate vibrators for men.

Prostate cancer question

prostate cancer question?
hi, im 13 and my dad who is 73 has prostate cancer. im very scared, and i would like to know more about it. if its found in only one part of the prostate is it better(safer) to remove the whole prostate of just part of it? my dad does need surgery. is it safe, and will he be okay?he had a transrectal biopsy and one of the cores came back positive. please help!
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
they do not remove part of a prostate its all or nothing I believe. If it has not spread past the confines of the prostate there are several options that are less radical. A good urologist knows all the options and will advise your dad. One option on a 73 year old is to just watch the progress of the ca.
2 :
If cancer was only found in one core it is a pretty early cancer. Prostate cancer is diffuse so the whole prostate is removed if he chooses surgery. Every surgery has a risk and none is 100% safe, but this surgery is particularly dangerous. Prostate cancer is usually slow growing and it’s not unusual to see men with it for 10-15 years with little or no treatment. I’m sure your dad will chose the best treatment for him.
3 :
I have prostate cancer. I was diagnosed last June. I also had one of twelve needles come back positive for cancer. I am 62 years old. I did not have surgery, I chose to have radioactive seed implants. It is known as Brachy therapy. If you google it you will find lots of information. It is a much easier treatment than surgery. I was back at work in 48 hours. That was 5 months ago. I feel fine now. I will get another PSA test this week and should find out that my PSA has dropped. Good luck, your dad will be fine. Here is a great website for men who have PC. http://www.yananow.net/
4 :
Prostate Cancer Treatments For Early And Advanced Prostate Cancer http://howtotreatcancer.com/    There is a wide range of prostate cancer treatments available today for both early and late stage prostate cancer and this article outlines the choices open to patients. There is a wide range of prostate cancer treatments available today and the treatment that your doctor recommends will depend to a very large extent upon the progression of the disease. Thereafter it is a matter of discussing each treatment option with your doctor and of considering the advantages and disadvantages of each, as well as of course looking carefully at the risks which all prostate cancer treatments carry. Prostrate cancer treatments fall into two broad categories - those that are recommended for early (Stage I and Stage II) cancer which is confined to the prostate gland and those used to treat advanced (Stage III and Stage IV) cancer which has spread to other areas of the body. Early stage cancer treatments are designed to remove the prostate or to destroy it and thus to stop the cancer cells before they have a chance to spread to other areas of the body. http://www.cancertruth.info/ The surgical removal of the prostate gland (prostatectomy) will normally be carried out as either traditional open surgery or using a less invasive laparoscopic approach. One recent development is the introduction of robotic surgery (using the da Vinci system) which has the advantage of preserving nerves, muscles and other structures in the area of the prostate. Robotic surgery is extremely effective but should be carried out by a highly skilled surgeon in a centre with considerable experience in using this technique. Radiation therapy may also be used to kill the cancer cells within the prostate gland. A variety of different radiation therapy techniques may be used and treatment will normally be carried out over a period of several weeks. A relatively new technique, which is still being evaluated, is known as cryosurgery. During cryosurgery, which is carried out under anesthesia, cooling probes are guided into the prostate using ultrasound and the cancer cells are killed by freezing them. The final form of treatment used for early stage cancer is high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). This procedure is again carried out under anesthesia (or using a local spinal anesthetic) and a probe is placed into the prostate gland through the rectum. A beam of high intensity focused ultrasound is them used to raise the temperature in the area of focus and thus to kill the cancer cells. For late stage prostate cancer hormone therapy is used and this is designed not to attack the cancer itself but to target the male hormones (in particular testosterone) which the cancer cells need to grow. Late stage treatments will include orchiectomy (the removal of the testicles), which is designed to remove the source of the body's main production of testosterone, or a variety of hormone treatments aimed at either reducing the level of testosterone and other male hormones in the body or of blocking their action. In cases where hormone therapy proves ineffective, systematic radiation therapy or chemotherapy may be recommended. Whatever the stage of your cancer it is important to consider all of the options carefully and weigh the advantages, disadvantages and risks of each carefully before choosing the treatment that is best for you. You will need to be the strong one, maybe your Dad needs time to get his head round everything before he tells other members of your family, you will need to respect his wishes, he will come to terms with it, but is unable to face people at the moment. Give him time, have they told him how long he has? This will obviousley reflect on your actions. It could be that he wants to tell your Mum himself, but doesn't feel ready to. Your strength will be his, be there for him, hug him, have a good cry together, but please, please be there for him, he will need you more than ever and he will need to be able to trust you. I lost my Dad when i was only nine, I am now forty five. You also need to seek support from one of the many Cancer Charitys, your Doctor should be able to help you with this, they will always be on the end of the phone.
5 :
Presley, Your father should ask the doctor for the radioactive seeds to be implanted in his prostate. Also, he can explore with his doctor the surgery to have the prostate removed. They are both good options. If the radioactive seeds work he should have 4/5 good years. Maybe, you should go to the doctor with your father? Think positive, Melora
6 :
Hi Presley, I am sorry you are going thru with this with your Dad. My Dad also had prostate cancer, he was 78 when diagnosed. He had daily radiation for six weeks and he is now 82 yrs old and doing great. I have terminal cancer, but its not nearly as scary as it was when my Dad was going thru this.. always harder to watch someone else suffer rather than ourselves. Unfortunately, he is watching me suffer now. He and I are the only ones in our entire family that have cancer, so we relate well to each other. Your support is going to mean the world to him even if its a heavy burden for you to carry. He must really trust you to tell you about his cancer. See if you can find an on line support group, yahoo has many cancer sections with support groups and some are of cancer of the prostate. You will be able to vent and find support from one of these groups. You need to be able to speak with someone about this or you will go 'insane'. But talk with your Dad, tell him how important it is for you to be able to discuss this with your Mom.. hopefully he will understand and relent. All the best to you.
7 :
You've shared with us so perhaps there are specialist groups out there who could help you. I have heard about the work that Maggie's centres do and if there is one near you they would provide a supportive group. If not there is an on-line community who might help. Above all they will listen to your very personal fears and needs without judging you. Don't try to conceal everything from your children. If they see your father tell them that Grandad isn't feeling very well but the doctor is trying to make him feel better (which is true). If they pass it on to your mother then just say that your father is going to the doctor but doesn't want to talk about it. Do you have a close friend who you could confide in who won't tell your mother what you have said? This would give you a much needed safety valve. The prostate cancer charity also offers support and information and have a nurse manned helpline. They may be able to direct you to local support groups who might be able to help. With all my best wishes for what will be a very difficult time and that you will find the strength to get through it.
8 :
ohhh sweety I'm so sorry!! I know it's hard, but my stepmom had the same thing. She lived through it! So don't worry, help your dad, bc he's going to have alot of trouble with this.. Keep his spirits high, be happy bc you have this time with him that most people don't have with there dads. I'm sure a friend would be happy to support you. Just ask, reach out. I'm also available. My email is katelynlovestyler@yahoo.com. I can't say that I share the same pain, but somewhat of it.
9 :
Hang in there, just because your dad has cancer doesn't mean he has to die. Depending on what stage it's in, it can still be cured by surgery and he can go on chemo. Don't think the worst until you hear the worst. God bless and pray, God doesn't give anybody anything they can't handle.
10 :
As devastating as the diagnosis of cancer can be, do not give up hope just yet. My father was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in May of 2000. At that time, his cancer had already metastasized to his bones and his PSA was 250 (normal is 1-4, 10 is considered very high). He began a hormone therapy treatment of Lupron Depot and Casodex. Using this treatment, his PSA got back down to less than 1 and he lived a pretty active life for another 7 & 1/2 years. Up until his last six months or so, if you didn't know he was sick, you wouldn't have known that he was so sick.
11 :
DON'T panic my husband was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer over 3 years ago treatments are available, my husband has a zoladex injection every 3 months. he doing well http://www.prostate-cancer.org.uk/ this site has a message board the men and their families can get support from each other
12 :
I am sorry for you not being able to talk about this with anyone. Have you not a close friend who would listen to you? You don't mention whether your father is having treatment. Why not tell him how you feel about your mother and ask him if he would change his mind for your sake.
13 :
I am sooo sorry abou t this problem its horrible i know i had my dad and my hubby go through the same thing and there is nothing much you can do. well go and talk to your mom. i mean let her know she shouldn't be told and talk to her about it. you know God takes those he wants now and i dont' know why. they will be at peace and its nice then. i dont' k now what you may think but its praying and being around your dad while hes here that counts i know suffereing isn't going to be good but they will try and make him comfortable. My prayers are with you in this time take care
14 :
First off, I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. Now, I am going to give you some ways to help you cope: 1. Educate yourself. Aggressive prostate cancer is not good. BUT, there are treatment options that can possible slow down or even control the cancer for quite some time. I will put a website at the bottom of the page to help you. 2.Get support, your Dad needs you (and you need him), there are things you can do together. There are prostate cancer support groups that you can go to together. People who are going through this are fantastic people to learn and lean on. 3. Go to the doctors with your dad and ask lots of questions.

Is it true that masturbation lessen the risk of prostate cancer

is it true that masturbation lessen the risk of prostate cancer?

Rather, is it true that masturbation is one of the causes of prostate cancer? Research that and get back to us.
2 :
"On July 16, 2003, an Australian research team led by Graham Giles of The Cancer Council published a medical study [3] which concluded that frequent masturbation by males may help prevent the development of prostate cancer. The study also indicated that this would be more helpful than ejaculation through sexual intercourse because intercourse can transmit diseases that may increase the risk of cancer instead."
3 :
Masturbating may protect against prostate cancer. It will make you go blind. It will make your palms grow hairy. ... myths about masturbation are largely a thing of ... true, Gen X should never see a case of prostate cancer. Time to go lessen ... may increase the risk of prostate cancer
4 :
YES, it's true.
5 :
you CANNOT get cancer from jacking off...Its healthy, it helps prevent things going wrong with your prostate...
6 :
There are no clear studies that prove that masturbation is healthy and keeps the prostate healthy. For every study that says it is, there is one that says it does not. The prostate is not a muscle but a gland, so it cannot get stronger by using it more. Over-use (3 ejaculations or more a week) would cause abbrasions, which can cause it to become congested and inflamed, which can lead to prostate issues.

Prostate cancer question

Prostate cancer question?
My dad just started chemotherapy for prostate cancer. How long will he live?
Cancer - 6 Answers

Possibly until he is 100! Prostrate cancer is a slow growing, slow spreading cancer. Often if it is diagnosed in the 70's it is left untreated as the patient is likely to die of unrelated age related causes before the prostrate cancer becomes a problem. Lots of love and support needed while he is going through his treatment but he has an excellent prognosis.

If your father takes regularly selenium, accept the doctor's advice, avoids unnecessary surgery he can live tens of years.
5 :
Hi, I take some natural products since 5 years ago with very good results in my health. They are food, not medicines, so they are not harmful to humans. Iv'e seen some types of cancer desapeard in some people I know by using some of these products.......herlo1957@hotmail.com
6 :
sometimes it can be cured if caught early. my hubby had it and he lasted quite awhile. its just what you are doing. i think maybe we didn't do the right things. chemo for it is teh best way. they can plant a seed in and stuff and it can work to. but i think it could cure him if hes not too late what is his psa? they say it does not matter but it does . if its 7 maybe too late i am not sure but i would talk to uroligist.

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer
Any encouraging stories from any one who knows anyone or had Stage 4 prostate cancer?
Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
My dad had prostate cancer but I don't know which stage. I don't think he has it anymore but now he has skin cancer.
2 :
Yes, a man I know with stage 4 prostate cancer had is prostate removed and underwent chemo therapy. The first year was real rough for him. While he did have some side affects from the chemo, he is still alive and his health is good. He was diagnosed & treated 6 years ago. here are some web sites that have lots of information about the "grading" systems of prostate cancer and what they mean. http://prostatecancer.about.com/od/treatments/a/stage4.htm http://www.urologychannel.com/prostatecancer/stagingsystems.shtml
3 :
Nothing good to say about stage 4 prostate cancer. That means it has probably spread and surgery will only make it worse. Once it spreads the Doctors have no way of knowing where it will go. I'm presently being treated with hormones. Very bad side effects and hormones are temporary as the cancer becomes immune to the treatment. The experience of the Doctor makes a lot of difference. Good luck.

Has anyone had the daVinci Robotic surgery for prostate cancer

Has anyone had the daVinci Robotic surgery for prostate cancer?
What was your result and how do you feel about it after the fact?

Please see Google search for more details and images on da Vinci Robotic surgery.
2 :
I am just diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer and my dr. wants to do the davinci surgery on me. i am also new to this site and can't find the answers to this question. i too would like to hear back from those that have had this surgery.
3 :
64 yrs old and pretty good shape.I had daVinci 3 weeks ago. Walked around an hour after. Home the next day. Catheter was annoying (of course) but other than that napped alot. Walked every day starting with 1/4 mile. Got bored mostly. Catheter out after one week - some dribbling during the day. Lots of kegels. No heavy lifting for another week, yet, but two mile walks are no problem. Look for uro with lots of experience. It seems to me like everyone is jumping on this band wagon; why should they learn on you?
4 :
My husband had a robotic prostatectomy, which unfortunately didn't work. I believe surgery can save lives, but it should never be done casually, the doctor has to be certain that this is the best treatment and that it is absolutely necessary. May needless RPs are performed on men. It's hard to comment without your stats. You can look at U. of Maryland Hospital which has a comparison of outcomes for different types of surgery. Best wishes, Leah prostatecancerblog.net

Prostate cancer questions

prostate cancer questions?
1) does masturbation/ ejaculation really reduce the risk of prostate cancer? 2) what type of food contains omega-3-fatty acid ( reduce many cancer risks)? 3) what are the CAUSES of Prostate Cancer?
Cancer - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
masturation ect does not cause or reduce the risk it runs in families if dad, uncle or grandad has it you would be at risk http://www.prostate-cancer.org.uk/ you may find this site helpfull has a good message board too
2 :
There is some evidence that frequent ejaculation gives a level of protection against prostate cancer. http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/site/c.itIWK2OSG/b.70620/k.B40A/NonRisk_Factors.htm (scroll down). Nobody knows the causes of prostate cancer. The biggest risk factor is age. Prostate cancer is extremely rare in men under 50; over 80% of men diagnosed with it are over 65 and half of all cases occur in men over 75.
3 :
Didig 1. Prostate cancer may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, problems during sexual intercourse, or erectile dysfunction. No masturbation/ejaculation has nothing to do with reduction of prostrate cancer. Rather The results contradict those of previous studies, which have suggested that having had many sexual partners, or a high frequency of sexual activity, increases the risk of prostate cancer by up to 40 percent. 2. There are three major types of omega 3 fatty acids that are ingested in foods and used by the body: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut, other marine life such as algae and krill, certain plants (including purslane), and nut oils. Prostate cancer Laboratory and animal studies indicate that omega-3 fatty acids (specifically, DHA and EPA) may inhibit the growth of prostate cancer. Similarly, population based clinical studies of groups of men suggest that a low-fat diet with the addition of omega-3 fatty acids from fish or fish oil help prevent the development of prostate cancer. Like breast cancer, the balance of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids appears to be particularly important for reducing the risk of this condition. ALA, however, may not offer the same benefits as EPA and DHA. In fact, one recent clinical study evaluating 67 men with prostate cancer found that they had higher levels of ALA compared to men without prostate cancer. More research in this area is needed. 3. Causes: a. Genetics A man's genetic background contributes to his risk of developing prostate cancer b. Diet Imbalanced diet can be cause of many types of cancer. Incorrect quanitity of vitamins, mineral selenium. c.According to National Academy of Sciences (2009) Xenotropic MuLV-related virus or XMRV protein was cause of prostate tumors in 23 percent of human . Good day Enjoy http://bisbio.in

Hey Dr.s, Does not having sex very often after a vasectomy, promote prostate problems, like cancer

Hey Dr.s, Does not having sex very often after a vasectomy, promote prostate problems, like cancer?
After having a vasectomy in 2000, I have had times where I have gone weeks or even months without sex. There have been times where I am urinating and have released an almost entire ejaculation's worth of semen. My question is, can this lead to prostate cancer? If so, please supply resources. My wife thinks that I am just trying to have sex more often, but I have shown her more than once that it is a real problem that can be very painful. I don't want any smart allec comments, I need some medical knowledge in this area.

I would suggest you call the surgeon who did your surgery and ask this question. Personally, I can't see a connection between having a vasectomy, sex and prostate issues. Celebate men do not have an increased risk of cancer of the prostate so you shouldn't either. This, however, does concern me... "There have been times where I am urinating and have released an almost entire ejaculation's worth of semen." From my understanding of how this whole thing works, this can't/shouldn't be happening together. How can you be sure it's semen in your urine and not an infection? How are you feeling otherwise? Do you have pain, fatigue? I think you need to see a doctor... really.
2 :
Vasectomy or frequency of sex has absolutely nothing to do with Prostate cancer. You are probably experiencing symptoms of Prostatitis -- a more common condition wherein your prostate gets inflamed. In this case, it is advisable to maintain regular sexual activity (once a day is the norm, depending on your age and overall state of health) inorder to eliminate those prostatic fluids you normally produce. Going back to Prostate cancer, if you are at least 45 y/o, visit a urologist and have a digital rectal exam, and probably PSA testing (a blood test) if your doctor so decides.

I have prostate cancer. I am 73 years old, my doctor has advised me to have my testicles removed

I have prostate cancer. I am 73 years old, my doctor has advised me to have my testicles removed ???
I don't have any reason to keep my testicles at my age. I understand that if I don't have them I won't be able to produce testosterone which will slow down the growth of cancer and I should live for another 10 years which will allow me to build a reasonable bank account for my 11 yo daughter
Men's Health - 11 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
sorry to hear that if it is gonna keep you alive then do it.
2 :
So... What is the question... Are you sure that prostate cancer can even kill you?
3 :
That doesnt make any damn sense! My pops had that and he had radiation! I think your doctor is a quack!
4 :
That's a major decision. I'm sure your doctor looks at your age and thinks that you probably don't have sex any more, but many men and women your age lead very active sex lives. If you're married or ever plan on dating again, the removal of your testicles will be an issue. Of course, the value of your testicles doesn't compare to the value of your life. I understand that you want to live much longer for your daughter. I think that's admirable. If the quality of life trade off is worth it for you, then go ahead.
5 :
Sometimes it is best to get a second opinion from another Dr.
6 :
If prostate cancer isn't caught early it is very common for it to spread to the testes and in most cases the testes are the first place for prostate cancer to spread. Testicular cancer is common among young men AND men who have prostate cancer. You're in the latter group and I am sure your doctor has reasons for advising this. You'll get artificial testicles put in (so your scrotum doesn't feel different). However, you'll have hormone issues (very low testosterone levels) and I am unsure if your doctor would prescribe testosterone replacement because testosterone is one of the major causes of prostate cancer growth. However, a second opinion from a specialist in the area of prostate cancer would be advisable. You should never rely on just one opinion from one doctor. After all, doctors are human and do make mistakes.
7 :
Sorry to hear your diagnosis. This is certainly a method I have never heard of for prostate cancer, There are injectable ways of reducing testosterone. The most common treatment is to have your prostated resected, or if the cancer is more advanced then have it removed - this can be done in a number of ways. I am a urology nurse of many years, and would suggest you speak to your dr again, as I am genuinely shocked that this would be an approach. Good luck
8 :
There is a procedure that zaps the prostate. I don't know what it's called, but I know my grandfather has to have his prostate surgically removed by a laser. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor and ask him if you could have the prostate zapped instead of him having to remove your testicles. I'm not a doctor, but I hope I helped.
9 :
unlucky...
10 :
do what the doctors recommend you do. if it will help you survive, then yes do it for you and you girl.
11 :
Please NOBODY click the link from baftdeb u or baftqes f. They and baehtoo e (probably same user) are posting this everywhere. It is a malware link and will destroy your system. Report them, they have already done damage. If enough of us report them they will get the jail time they deserve (up to 30 years). And to post their links against such an important question they must be sick. I have now sent a report to the authorities as well as reporting here.

Is my cellular phone really going to give me testicular/prostate cancer

Is my cellular phone really going to give me testicular/prostate cancer?
like.. really?!
Cell Phones & Plans - 2 Answers

1 :
Well there have been studies that show that cell phones do emit radiation. So Yes, sorry.
2 :
It seems unlikely, even if your ears were next to your gonads :-) Cell phones operate on VERY low power - like a few watts. A little tiny Christmas tree bulb uses one watt, so that's like saying you're going to get cancer from a string of lites on your tree. Not too likely, I have a sneakin' suspicion. As to radiation: EVERYTHING emits radiation. Even PEOPLE emit tiny pulses; that's how an EEG works. It's just not NUCLEAR radiation. Your cell phone emits the same kind of radiation as a simple transistor radio - electromagnetic radiation. Your cell just doesn't emit NEARLY as much, and it emits most of it as heat (which is part of the electromagnetic spectrum just like visible light, radio waves, infrared, microwave, and ultraviolet wavelengths). It's a question of power, not wavelengths, and with only 3 - 4 watts of power, it's not something to sit around and worry about. You have a lot bigger chance of getting zapped by your microwave ;-)
