If your PSA is high have other test preformed. Family history plays a role in the likely hood of you getting at a younger age. If you feeling or showing any signs or symptoms have you dr. check you out. Remember this saying when it comes to prostate cancer. "Young men die from it, old men die with it."
3 :
Pretty darn good! I suggest you get to a doctor before you die!
4 :
I'm not sure on the chances but from about 30-60 is the ages most men get it if they do. Well I heard the more testosterone the higher the chances or the prostate swelling. Sorry, I know it wasn't much help but that's all I know. Best advice, don't worry about it unless you start noticing signs then go straight to the doctor! I don't think the cause of prostate cancer is known so I can't really give you any other tips.
5 :
Rather slim, but it is not totally out of the equation
6 :
Probably very low for your age. Yet, every men must have a healthy lifestyle that will keep your whole body, and specifically your prostate healthy up to the age of ... 132 :-)) The preventive measures that will keep your prostate healthy are very easy and pleasant to follow : ejaculate as often as possible, and add more pleasure and effectiveness by including prostate massage.

Does anyone survive more than 10years Prostate Cancer

Does anyone survive more than 10years Prostate Cancer?
68year old male facing prostate biopsy.

Oh yes. It is not unusual to see patients with this disease for 15-20 years. A substantial number of men survive 10-15 years with no treatment at all. Prostate cancer is typically slow growing and can be managed fairly well for long periods. It is often less aggressive the older you are at diagnosis. If you have nodular hyperplasia it can be difficult for doctors to tell if it is cancer as the nodules feel the same and about 15-20% of these patients also have an elevated PSA. No one wants cancer, but try not to worry too much or get ahead of yourself. Statistics are on your side with this one even if it is cancer. Best wishes.
2 :
Yes. My neighbour has stage 4 prostate cancer and he has been alive for the last 16 years so far!
3 :
At present, the risk of finding prostate cancer on your biopsy is related to your PSA level. If your PSA (blood test) is <4, the chances of cancer are 5-25%, for a PSA 4-10, 15-25%, and for a PSA >10, a 50-70% chance of finding cancer on the biopsy. If it turns out that you do have cancer, it will be important to find out what your Gleason Score is and your "T" stage. Ask your doctor for both of these. With these three bits of information (Gleason Score, PSA and T stage), you will know what category you fit into. There are 3 categories: low risk, intermediate risk and high risk. The word "risk" refers to the risk of the cancer coming back in the future after treatment. The best form of treatment for your cancer will also depend on which risk category you fit into. If you fit into a low risk category (Gleason Score 6 or less and PSA <10 and T1 or T2), the chances of being alive and free from prostate cancer 10 years from now are around 86%. If you fit into the intermediate risk category (Gleason Score 7, or PSA 10-20, or T2b, T2c), the chances of being alive and free from prostate cancer 10 years from now are around 70%. If you fit into the high risk category (Gleason Score 8-10, or PSA >20, or T3/T4) the chances drop to around 40%. Dr. Kelly www.canceranswersonline.com

First of all I do wish you well and good luck with your surgery. In answer to your question, the facts are that many patients with prostate cancer live much longer than five years after diagnosis. The good news is that around 85% - 90% of men with prostate cancer live at least five years, and around 65% percent survive more than 10 years. Again good luck.

It's a sign that you should lay off the lot lizards
2 :
A sign of prostatitis which is inflammation of the prostate.
3 :
No. May be a sign of something else, but a painful erection has nothing to do with prostate cancer.
4 :
prostate cancer and prostate infections actually hurt at the tip of your penis with ejaculation. i know it seems far removed from the prostate, but that is where you feel it. i have had a prostate infection and my uncle has advanced prostate cancer. we both had pain at the tip of our penis. as it progressed i began to spot blood after ejaculation. at first i wrote it off as from my wife and didnt realize it was me.
5 :
No not at all. That being said, it could be. I does most likely having something to do with your prostate. However there are many problems associated with the prostate. See your doctor.
6 :
Prostate cancer doesn't appear until men reach age 50+. Teens do not have that problem.
7 :
no it is not
8 :
No not really, you could have over done it a bit or a lot:give it a break. Sky.

Concerns prior to scheduled Prostate Cancer Biopsy and I am hoping someone (perferrably a urologist) can

Concerns prior to scheduled Prostate Cancer Biopsy and I am hoping someone (perferrably a urologist) can?
assist me in making an informed decision. I am scheduled to have Prostate Cancer Biopsy on 05/24/07. Here is a brief history of events up till now: Vital statistics and hx are as follows: Age: 38; Sex: Male; Ht: 5' 5"; Wt: 162 lbs; Father: recently passed away at the age of 73 2ndry Prostate Cancer which got metastasized and as a result he had bone cancer as well; Mother: has diabetes and previously has had benign tumor removed; Older Brother: Healthy; Race: Asian-Indian. On 04/23/07 blood test done and the results indicated PSA level of 3.5, subsequent to this FreePSA test done on 05/04/07 and PSA level: 3.68. The normal range is 0-2.5. Based on some some chart scoring had a value of 8 indicative that I probably have a 24% chance of having prostate cancer. Visited Urologist on 05/16/07 and DRE was conducted and was normal. Should I wait 8 weeks and have another PSA test or go for Biopsy as suggested by the Urologist? Don't want to be sliced & diced but also want peace of mind!

I'm a pathologist in Romania and from my experience you have very little chance of having prostate cancer. First of all you are younger than the youngest man ever diagnosed with prostate cancer (he was 39). Second, the PSA level is a little higher than normal, not enough to suspect a cancer. Then, the DRE is normal what means there is a very low probability of cancer. But nothing is impossible and nobody can tell you 100% sure you don't have cancer without a biopsy. So, my advice is to undergo the biopsy. Its result is the only thing certain so you will get the peace of your mind after it. Good luck. More about PSA, on my blog: http://www.newcancerguide.com/what-is-psa.html

The above answer has the right conclusion, although all the facts are wrong. While PCa at your age is rare, it's hardly unknown. You have an significantly elevated risk due to the fact that your father had it. PSA is not an indication of cancerous tissue, it's produced by both normal and diseased prostate tissue. The absolute number turns out to be fairly meaningless, as "normal" could be anywhere from .5 to 8, mostly depending on the size of your prostate and general health. It's best to have regular PSA tests, and to keep a chart of your results. A rapid increase in PSA is more concerning than a high absolute number. Free PSA is the percent of PSA which isn't attached to protein. If it's very low, there is a higher chance that your PSA reading is caused by cancer. A DRE can only detect cancer when it's extensive enough to be palpable. In parts of Europe, adoption of PSA testing has been slower than in the US, and DRE is still a preferred detection technique. But DRE will miss cancer in it's earliest, most treatable stage. In the US, the overwhelming majority of men are diagnosed with biopsy following abnormal PSA readings, and never reach the stage of having a positive DRE. If I were in your place, I would take the biopsy. Although biopsy isn't the most pleasant experience, it's the only way to find peace of mind. If it's negative, I would continue being vigilant, and have PSA tests every six months, charting the results. Given your family history, it pays not to take chances. What you can expect from the biopsy is a few minutes of discomfort, followed by a month of bleeding. It's not the worst thing that can happen to you.
3 :
I'm currently being treated for Prostate Cancer after Radical Prostatectomy last year. I agree that you should probably go ahead and get the biopsy tomorrow. Should you decide to wait know that you are not in a life and death situation at this point. Overall Prostate Cancer tends to slow growing so you could wait and have PSA tests done every 3 to 4 months and see what is happening. You should Probably join the Prostate Problems Mailing List : PROSTATE@LISTSERV.ACOR.ORG Also get the books "Beating Prostate Cancer, Hormonal Therapy and Diet"by Snuffy Meyers and "A Primer on Prostate Cancer, The Empowered Patient's Guide" by Stephen B. Strum, M.D. and Donna Pogliano. At least the later should be in your library. Do a Yahoo search on either title and you will find places to buy them.

I don't know about the various stages of prostate cancer. They cut half of the penile skin off by the mutilation of circumcision for no good reason, except to make money for the doctors. Circumcision is the worst hoax ever perpetrated on the male sex. A foreskin is not a birth defect; it is a birthright. ERIC
2 :
there is no such thing as stage 9 cancer. stage IV is the worst kind and it is terminal. also, the prostate is inside the body, not in the penis. so, unless the cancer spreads down there i'm pretty sure they're not going to cut it off.
3 :
The prostate is an internal organ wrapped around the urethra (piss tube) between the bladder and the penis. When the prostate cancer is advanced then the prostate has to be surgically removed. A small portion of the urethra is removed with it and the cut ends are sewn back together to make a new tube. Unless the cancer has spread to the penis - a very unusual situation - the penis will not be modified or removed. After a prostate operation it is necessary to have a catheter inserted into the bladder through the penis whilst the urethra heals. In a very small number of cases with elderly men, the foreskin is too tight to allow a catheter to be safely and easily passed. In these few cases it may be necessary to perform a circumcision to allow the meatus (piss slit) to be visible. This is the only surgery that might need to be done on the penis.

My doc told me that if it runs in your family you need to get checked 10 years before the age your fam. member was diagnosed. So if your dad had prostate cancer and was diagnosed at age 50, you need to get a prostate exam at age 40.
