Can cancer cells from the prostate transfer to the woman through semen

can cancer cells from the prostate transfer to the woman through semen?
my son asked me and I never thought of this. Is it possible since the semen is developed in the prostate. If it's cancerous is the semen cancerous also?

Im a house internal medicine generalist in an academic hospital. If your question is a woman "catch" cancer from having sex with man with prostate cancer...the answer is definitely NO. Even if a metastatic cell were dislodged from the prostate and secreted into semen and ejaculated into your vagina, the cell would have to survive your own immune system to survive and establish its own blood supply both of which are considered largely impossible according to our understanding of oncologic science. there are some viruses that can transferred that cause cancers (like ebv, hiv, karposi sarcoma) but I am aware of no cases where cancerous cells invaded a second host and thrived. And prostate cancer is not caused by a virus.

No. The tumor cells come from person A (for example) and are highly individualized to that person. If the tumor cells were to make it into another person (via semen, for example), Person B's immune system would see them as foreign and immediately attack and destroy them. It's like a transplant being rejected. That said, I'm not a doctor and not qualified to give medical advice. If you are concerned about this, a quick phone call to your doctor will settle the matter.
