There are a number of very effective treatment options for prostatic cancer--so the cure/survival rate (prognosis) is good to very good....BUT the key factor is early detection. After age 50, I insist that all my male patients get their prostate checked annually. The sooner a problem is identified the sooner treatment can be initiated.

My Uncle last year had prostate cancer and went through the surgery. Today he is doing pretty well for all that he has been through. He is still wearing what he calls man diapers at this time which kind of discourages him. The bladder kind of has a mind of it's own. He is taking meds to help with that and the doctor's tell him that this is all normal. All in all the cancer is gone and he is just getting through these minor problems at this time. I hope you the best! Hope this helps.

By and large prostate cancer patients are elderly and tend to die of old age long before the cancer gets resistant to therapy
