At least wait for an actual diagnosis before getting alarmed. You say that he "might" have cancer, so that means he may not have cancer. Best wishes for a good outcome.

Hopefully he does not. However if he does it is often a highly treatable cancer and he can be just fine. Some doctors will even take a "wait and see " approach because some prostate cancers are so slow growing that a man will pass from other causes before he does from prostate cancer. Your dad needs to have his biopsy to find out what level and stage of cancer he might have and then be treated accordingly. It may be that he just has a benign enlargement that comes to men as they age. Keep a good face for your dad and let him know that you love him. That will be the biggest help until he knows what he is dealing with.

There are various forms of prostate cancer, some are more "aggressive" than others. The GOOD NEWS is that MOST men with prostate cancer live long enough to die of another disease than the prostate cancer. Best wishes and good luck.

It usually depends on what stage his cancer is in: Stage A - early stage of cancer. Tumor is very small that it can only be detected thru microscopic viewing. Stage B - larger cancer but still confined in the localized area Stage C - spread of cancer in nearby areas of the prostate Stage D1 - spread to the nearby (pelvic) lymph nodes Stage D2 - distant spread (metastasis), for example, to the bones, liver, or lungs. You better check what stage he is in to know his chances of survival.

Hi. Prostate cancer is very common in men his age, but few die of it. IF he is diagnosed with it, read on: When caught early, as it usually is these days, it is highly curable. It is a challenge to be taken seriously, but no reason to panic. To quote leading urologist Patrick Walsh, for most men prostate cancer is just a bump in the road.
